Republican Senator Marco Rubio and Democratic Senator Bill Nelson both received mail containing white powdery substances in the last couple of days, bringing back fears from shortly after 9/11 and the Anthrax scare.

Tuesday, the Sheriff’s Bomb Squad was called after mail containing the powder was opened at the Jacksonville office of Marco Rubio.  Likewise, on Monday, Bill Nelson’s office received a similar powdery substance.  In both cases, the buildings were evacuated, however, Rubio was in Washington D.C. and Nelson, while in Jacksonville, was not at the office having left earlier for a fundraiser.

The sheriff’s office is trying to determine if the incidents are related.  Federal officials from the ATF and the FBI are also looking into the matter.  After testing the powder, authorities said it was cornstarch.
