Port Everglades, Fla. –
Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas had to be decontaminated following 54 guests and 10 crew members becoming ill with what is believed to be Norovirus following its return to port on Saturday.
Norovirus is a virus commonly found on board ships and can be deadly in some cases, but the cases aboard Oasis of the Seas were treated with over the counter medicine while on board the ship. According to the CDC, noroviruses cause more than 50% of all foodborne disease outbreaks in the US.
The ship has now departed on a seven day trip through the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico.
