Hazmat Crash On I-95 Forces Closure In Port Orange

According to FHP troopers, there has been a deadly accident on Interstate 95 that has killed one driver and injured four others. One of the tractor-trailers was carrying methyl bromide and nearby resident in the Yellow Ridge and Willow Run subdivisions were notified by reverse 911 calls of the potentially hazardous situation.

The interstate was close in both directions for several hours, but the southbound lanes have now opened, northbound lanes remain closed.

The hazmat carrier, a logging truck, a postal carrier truck and another vehicle with three occupants were involved in the crash.

I-95 remains closed in the northbound lanes from interstate 4 to State Road 421.

Methyl Bromide is used in pest control products and commercial fumigant, the gas is colorless and orderless.
