A relatively shallow earthquake has struck near Coachella, which is about two hours east-southeast of Los Angeles. The quake struck at 8:58 a.m. pacific time (11:58 a.m. eastern time) at a depth of 1.2 miles and measured 3.4 on the richter scale. Two other earthquakes have been registered in the same area within the last 10 days say seismologist at the USGS.
According to the USGS, the epicenter was 10 miles from Indio, 11 miles from Mecca, 27 miles from Palm Springs and 91 miles from San Diego.
