American Airlines to cut 13,000 jobs

American Airlines announced its intention 13,000 jobs cutting its staff by %15 in the midst of the companies repositioning itself after bankruptcy protection. In addition to the layoffs the airline planes to eliminate pensions and to stop paying retiree health benefits. In a press conference CEO Thomas W. Horton said that hopes the cuts will return the airline to profabililty with $2 billion in spending cuts and $1 billion increase in revenue. The largest cut will be maintenance workers at 4,600, 4,200 baggage handlers, 2,300 flight attendants, 1,400 management, and 400 pilots would lose their jobs.
