A Palm Beach County court has sentenced 20 year old Ronald Falzini to 9 years in prison for DUI Manslaughter for hitting and killing 73 year old Guadalupe Corrizales in a crosswalk.
In May 2011, Falzini hit Corrizales with his car while under the influence of Xanax, marijuana and alcohol and failed to render aid according to court records and police reports and had originally faced up to 30 years in prison. Falzini pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
Corrizales's family asked the judge to be lenient on Falzini saying, "I know that he's going to have to live the rest of his life knowing 'I killed someone.' I know I couldn't live with that," Corrizales' granddaughter said in court during sentencing. "I think it was a big mistake, but it was a mistake."
Ronald Falzini could be released on parole as early as April 2018 with time served plus gain time for good behavior.
