Virgin Atlantic Flight En-Route To Orlando Makes Emergency Landing
A Virgin Atlantic, flight number VIR27, that was en-route to Orlando was forced to return to London Gatwick airport to make an emergency landing following reports of a burning smell.
The flight took off from London Gatwick airport and about an hour into the flight crew members began to smell something burning and the captain decided to return to the airport. Fire crews were on scene when the plane landed and said there was a report of a small fire but this has not been confirmed by the airline.
Virgin Atlantic said in a statement that "Due to a technical problem on board the aircraft, the captain decided as a precautionary measure to immediately evacuate the aircraft."
The plane landed safely with 299 passengers and 13 crew members were on board, with four people sustaining light injuries resulting from the emergency evacuation.
