Gov. Rick Scott Signs Off On State's Budget Touting Education, But Slashed $140 Million In Spending
Florida Republican Governor Rick Scott has signed the $70 billion budget for the state touting his $1 billion in education, but a deeper look shows he actually cut educational spending.
With Scott calling this budget an "Education Budget", education administrators around the state said that his budget barely covers basic costs and does not addressed increased enrollment and actually cuts many programs around the state.
In total, Scott used his line item veto power to cut $142 million from the budget, cutting funding from much needed road repair and expansion projects in Miami and Orlando, health services to low income and charitable organizations, failed to fund several educational programs at the state's colleges and universities, and cuts funding from many public/private partnerships.
