Australian billionaire Clive Palmer has announced he, along with his investment partners, are building the Titanic II and it will sail from Southampton to New York City along Titanic's original route.
Unlike past hopes of building another Titanic, this time it appears to be a done deal with financing completed and contracts having already been signed to build the ship with the state owned Chinese company CSC Jinling Shipyard along with up to three other sister ships.
The new ships will be fitted with the latest in technology and safety designs but will be built to replicate the size, shape and design of the original Titanic which sunk on its maiden voyage to New York City.
The new Titanic II will carry 1,680 passengers, far less than modern cruise liners of up to 6,000. However Blue Star Line Pty. Ltd., as the new shipping company has been named, hopes passengers will want to cruise the ultra luxury liner as opposed to the standard fare most people are used to now.
