Phoenix, AZ -
A gunman opened fire and killed four people in Gilbert, AZ (suburb of Phoenix) before ultimately shooting himself according to local police. According to reports, the shooter was Jason "J.T." Ready, a former US Marine turned neo-nazi militia leader who previously lead an effort to patrol the Arizona desert in search of illegal immigrants and drug smugglers.
Among the dead is a toddler, believed to be between one and two years of age, who was still alive when police arrived and struggling for life. Sadly she later died at the hospital.
One person survived the shooting and is being treated at the Maricopa Medical Center. Police say this appears to be a revenge/gang shooting.
Authorities have not identified the other victims, but reached by phone Wednesday afternoon, Hugo Maderos of Tampa Florida said the victims were his ex-wife, Lisa; their daughter, Amber; Amber's boyfriend, whose name The Republic is withholding until his next of kin could be notified, and Amber's 18-month-old baby, Lilly.
Bill Balafas of the Gilbert Police said the gunman started shooting into a house in the Phoenix suburb for unknown reasons and that police recovered two handguns and a shotgun from the scene.
The investigation was temporarily delayed after investigators discovered two 55 gallon drums of an unknown fluid or chemical. The FBI is also involved in the investigation.
