Florida Sued Over New Law Banning Companies Who Do Business In Cuba Or Syria
Miami, Fla. -
Florida based construction company Odebrecht USA has filed suit against Florida over a new law that prevents government agencies from hiring companies that have done business with Cuba or Syria.
State republican's overwhelmingly support the law which is to take effect July 1st.
Odebrecht USA is arguing in their suit that only the federal government can set foreign policy and has the right to regulate commerce, both of which as clauses in the U.S. Constitution.
When Florida governor Rick Scott signed the law, he immediately issued a written statement saying that he would not enforce the law questioning the constitutionality of the law. But that drew threats by state republicans to take Scott to court to require him to enforce the law.
