State emergency officials have confirmed that three people were killed as a result of Tropical Storm Debbie, which is a slow moving storm that dumped torrential rains across the state causing widespread flooding in many parts of the state.
The deaths were in Pinellas, Highlands and Polk counties according to state officials.
In Highlands county, a tornado was responsible for one death in the town of Venus, 32-year-old Heather Town was blown 200 feet into nearby woods while clinging to her daughter trying to protect her. Her daughter was found still being cradled by her mother who was already dead when emergency crews arrived.
