A couple have been charged child abuse and human smuggling after their 5-month-old boy was discovered packed into their carry on bags at the security screening checkpoint.
The Egyptian couple had arrived in Sharjah in the UAE but were not allowed to leave the airport because they lacked a visa for the infant boy. Two days later the father became impatient waiting for the Egyptian passport office to open and convinced his wife to hide the boy inside of their carry on bags and leave the UAE.
The child was discovered as it passed through an x-ray machine during routine security screening.
The Sharjah police have detained the family and are investigating the incident. Police report the infant is doing fine and was not harmed, and had the child checked out by medical personnel.
