Corrupt Cop In Hialeah Gardens Sentenced To 12 years In Prison Over Stolen Drugs
Lawrence Perez has been sentenced to a little over 12 years in prison, 151 months, after being previously convicted of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute marijuana plants and marijuana and intent to distribute over 100 marijuana plants according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Prosecutors said detective Perez conspired with other patrol officers to steal 10 pounds of marijuana from a person they stopped who they said was trying to sell it. After selling the stolen marijuana, the money was divided up amongst the police officers and Perez.
They also say there was another incident in May of 2010 when the same group stole 14 pounds of marijuana. The following month, prosecutors say Perez and his accomplices planned to invade a grow operation at a warehouse but once authorities discovered the plan, the plants were seized.
Perez also used information privy to him as a law enforcement officer to aid and protect his accomplices.
