The Florida Film Festival is off to the races and absolutely pleasing to my “Open Eyes”. This is my first Florida Film Festival and I am definitely in movie heaven. As of Tuesday morning, here are some “Movie Minute Moments” from the films I viewed and rated at the Florida Film Festival.  (Scores are out of 11)

Combustion:  A visually stimulating short film that was a perfect fit to kick off a Film Festival whose theme is “Open Your Eyes”.   Score: 7

Twenty Feet From Stardom:  It’s no mystery why this documentary was picked to be the Opening Night feature, (see my review).  Score: 9.2

This Is Where We Live:  A look at the importance of family and the adopted families we embrace through life, (see my review).  Score: 8.5

Audacity of Hope:  A short film that shows how far man has come, from creating fire to ordering a pizza?   Score: 7.2

First Comes Love: A biological clock ticking time bomb documentary with heart by Filmmaker Nina Davenport. A unique spin on the birds and bees.   Score: 7.8

Putzel:  It’s kind of in the name. While watching Putzel, you find yourself disliking every character in the movie.  I don’t know if that was intentional.   Score: 4

You Can’t Always Get What You Want:  A short that contains recorded dribbles of President Lyndon B. Johnson. Interesting but not mind-blowing.  Score: 6.5

Informant: Brandon Darby, a self-serving radical or a hero? It’s not important. The feelings invoked by this documentary, good and bad, are important.  Score:  8

8 1/2: Federico Fellini’s masterpiece celebrates 50 years. My first Fellini experience and I got it!!! At least I think I got it?? I’m still thinking it out.  Score: Pending
