Jay Matthew Riley has turned himself in on child pornography charges after seeing a pop-up on his computer screen telling him the FBI knows.

The 21-year-old Virginia man had been online when a pop-up message, caused by a virus on his computer, told him that the FBI has identified images on his network. The letter then gave him the option to pay a fine online or turn himself in.

The virus was meant to lure in people who have visited pornography sites in general and convince them to send the thieves money, but in this case, it resulted in criminal charges.

Riley took his computer into the Woodbridge, VA. The police department and discovered afterward it was just a virus, and the FBI had no knowledge of his actions. Investigators have since found a few child pornography pictures and conversations with people, one believed to be a 13-year-old girl in Minnesota.

Riley is being held without bond and is charged with possession of child pornography.
