Miami Gardens Police Chief Stephen Johnson was fired on Friday night after being arrested for soliciting a prostitute in Dania Beach.
According to Broward County Sheriff Deputies, former Police Chief Stephen Johnson, 53, was arrested during an undercover sting operation at a hotel. Detectives with the Sheriff’s Crime Suppression Team placed an escort ad on backpage.com offering a “two-girl special”.
Johnson called the undercover detective and agreed to pay $100 for the two-girl special and said that he wanted to “do everything”.
At 6:20 pm on Friday night, Johnson went to the hotel room arranged in the call and proceeded to produce a $100 bill for the services. That is when sheriff deputies arrested Johnson who was found to have two condoms in his pocket.
Johnson was booked into the Broward County Jail for solicitation and had bond set to $300. He has since bonded out of jail.
The City of Miami Gardens released a statement late Friday saying that they were the area of his arrest. The statement said, “As a result, Mr. Johnson’s employment with the City of Miami Gardens has been terminated, effective immediately.”
Johnson had been on the job since May of last year after charges of racial profiling shook up the organization.
