Two firefighters are dead, and two more are injured while battling a burning apartment building in Kansas City, Missouri on Monday night.
The fire occurred at an apartment complex on the 2600 block of Independence Avenue around 7:30 pm.
When the first responder arrived, they found the building already heavily damaged by smoke and fire.
Crews were able to rescue two people from the second story of the building.
Four firefighters were in an area that already had the roof partially collapse and was attempting to clear the area when more of the roof collapsed. Two of the firefighters died from their injuries. The remaining two were taken to the hospital and are in stable condition.
The names of the victims have not yet released.
The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
