Over 30 people were injured when a bus carrying students to universities in Virginia overturned on Sunday night.
The charter bus owned by Abbott Trailways contained 50 people on its way from Richmond to Virginia Tech, Radford University, and the University of Virginia. The bus flipped on its side on the Powhite Parkway near Chesterfield.
According to a representative from Chesterfield Fire and EMS, around 33 people were transported to six different area hospitals. Only one person had life-threatening injuries. The majority of the injuries were minor in nature.
Virginia State Police say that the bus overturned as it was proceeding through a curve on the highway. The driver, Thomas B. Chidester, 58, is being charged with reckless driving.
Abbott Trailways dispatched another bus to pick up the remaining students and return them to their destinations.
