Fresno, CA.

Five people are dead and one person is injured from a fire that occurred at an abandoned and boarded up house in Fresno on Sunday.

According to the Fresno Fire Department, the home off Archie Avenue had been vacant for several years. The windows and doors had been boarded up for a long time however it appears that one of the windows had been pried open. Firefighters believe that people were living in the home illegally.

When firefighters arrived on the scene they found four people already dead at the scene. A fifth victim was taken to the hospital but later died.

One person was taken to Community Regional Medical center where they are listed in critical condition.

Firefighters found all of the victims inside one of the bedrooms where it appeared that they were trying to smash a window to get out.

So far the Fresno County Coroners office has been able to identify three of the victims as Anthony Zavala, 37, Irene Hinojos, 36, and Monique Amaral, 28. The official cause of death has not been announced but officials believe that the victims died from smoke inhalation.

At this time the cause of the fire is not known.
