The Middle East-based airline, Qatar Airways, has announced that it plans to launch two new routes from is Doha, Qatar base that will become the longest and second longest routes in the world, surpassing current title holder Qantas flying from Sydney to Dallas route of 8,575 miles.
The new routes will be from Doha to Auckland, which is just over 9,000 miles and to Santiago, Chile flying 8,950 miles. The estimated flight time would be 18 and a half hours.
The airline will use its 777-200LR which is configured with 42 seats in business class and 217 in the economy.
The new route may not stay the longest, however, as Singapore Airlines had announced this past fall that it intends to re-launch its route from Singapore to New York, which is 9,535 miles.
