Palm Bay, Fla.

A Palm Bay police officer was involved in a shooting on Tuesday that left a suspect dead.

Cpl. Jason McCoy of the Palm Bay Police Department was among multiple officers that responded to a home off Mariposa Drive. Someone called 911 saying that a man was threatening to shoot construction workers.

The suspect, who has not been identified, was upset with construction happening at a house next door to his home. The man began to make threats to three of the crewmembers.

When officers arrived on scene they engaged the suspect in a one and half hour standoff. During this time, police say that the suspect kept coming in and out of the home holding a weapon and making threatening gestures. This is when Cpl. McCoy shot and killed the suspect.

McCoy has been put on administrative leave pending an investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
