A pep rally at Atlantic High School had an expected turn when a fire breather performing a trick suffered an accident that left him engulfed in flames.
Ray Charles of Inferno Challenge was hired to perform at Atlantic High School on Thursday. He was showing a fire-breathing trick when something went wrong, and his body was covered in flames.
Crews with Inferno Challenge along with people at the school rushed in and used fire extinguishers to put out the flames.
Charles sustained first-degree burns on his face and nose. He later told investigators that he was using a new lamp oil that he had never tested before while doing the trick.
Delray Beach Fire Rescue responded and treated 20 people where were affected by the fumes from the fire.
