A 4-year-old boy is dead after being hit by an SUV while waiting to be picked up from a Houston daycare on Tuesday.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s office, an 81-year-old woman driving a Lincoln SUV was pulling up to the KD Learning Center on Tuesday. The woman was picking up her grandchild and the 4-year-old boy.
Once the woman’s grandson was inside the SUV in the front seat, she began to back up thinking that the other child was in the backseat.
The SUV was put into reverse, and the woman backed into the boy. As the woman tried to get out of the vehicle to aid the child, she fell. The car then continued in reverse till it struck into the daycare center.
No other children were hurt when the SUV struck the building.
The 4-year-old was taken via helicopter to Memorial Herman – Texas Medical Center. He was pronounced dead a short time later. Doctors say that the child died from either the fall or being struck by the vehicle.
The sheriff’s department has said that the accident is under investigation, so it is not known if any charges will be filed.
The names of the driver and victim have not been released.
