A fire at a Denver apartment building forced several residents to jump for their lives late Sunday evening.

The fire started at the Federal View Apartments located off Federal Boulevard near Downtown at around 9:15 p.m. Denver Fire Department arrived on scene and blocked off several streets as crews worked to put out the blaze.

Officials with Denver Health have reported that several people were treated for injuries sustained after they jumped out of the second-floor apartment building. Two people are in critical condition, three in serious, and six others are in fair condition.

Up to 10 ambulances were called to the scene to carrying the fire victims.

Several residents were trapped in their apartments and were rescued by firefighters.

Residents have described firefighters wrapping infants in blankets and tossing them out windows in order to escape the blaze.

The fire was put out within 30 minutes after crews arrived on scene.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
