Former female professional wrestler and reality television star Chyna was found dead inside her Los Angeles area home on Wednesday.
Chyna, whose real name is Joan Maria Laurer, was found dead in her bedroom inside the stars Redondo Beach apartment. The friend had entered the apartment after not hearing from Chyna for several days.
The cause of death has yet to be determined.
A statement released on Chyna’s website read, “Today we lost a true icon, a real-life superhero. Joanie Laurer aka Chyna, the 9th Wonder of the World has passed away. She will live forever in the memories of her millions of fans and all of us that loved her.”
WWE released a statement on their website reading, “A physically striking and talented performer, Chyna was a true sports-entertainment pioneer. Not only was the Superstar dubbed “The Ninth Wonder of the World” a founding member of the groundbreaking faction D-Generation X, but she also holds the distinction of being the first woman to enter the Royal Rumble Match and the first and only woman to win the Intercontinental Championship.
Cbyna became a superstar in the WWE in the late 90’s then retired in 2001. After leaving the WWE she appeared in Playboy and in pornographic films than on reality television programs “The Surreal Life” and “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.”
