Three federal law enforcement officers are recovering after being shot while trying to arrest a robbery suspect on Saturday.
The federal agents were part of a joint fugitive task force that comprised of officers from the U.S. Marshals Service, FBI, and multiple local law enforcement agencies. The different agencies were attempted to arrest Orlando Collins, 28, who was wanted for multiple armed robberies.
The agents attempted to apprehend Collins at the Country Club Motel in Topeka.
During the arrest, two U.S. Marshal deputies and an FBI agent were wounded during a gunfight. The three law enforcement officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
A fire was started during the arrest that spreads to the entire building. No other motel guests were injured though.
Investigators discovered a body inside the room after the fire was put out. The identity of the body has not been released.
