Alaska Air Passenger Attempted To Open Emergency Door In Flight

Alexander Michael Herrera, 23 is being charged with interfering with a flight crew Monday after attempting to open an emergency door in midflight. The Alaskan Air flight from Anchorage Alaska to Portland Oregon was 10 minutes away from its landing when the event occurred.

Passengers report that Herrera was making “unusual statements” prior to him attempting to open the door. Other passengers were able to restrain Herrera with restraints, shoe laces, and seat belt extensions while the plane made its descent.

2 Men Arrested On Pakistan International Airlines Flight To Manchester

London, U.K. -

A Pakistan International Airlines flight was forced to divert to Britain's Stansted Airport after being intercepted by an RAF military jet and forced to land.

There, Essex police removed to men from the airplane and placed them under arrested on charged of endangerment of an aircraft following an incident on board the Boeing 777 airplane which was flying from Pakistan with nearly 300 passengers and crew on board.

Turkish Airlines Completes Order For 70 Boeing 737 Airplanes

Turkish Airlines has completed their order for 70 new Boeing 737's, 40- 737-8, 10-737 Max 9's and 20 NG 737-800 airplanes plus option for 25 more 737 Max 8's.

THe order was first placed in early April and is valued at $6.9 billion at list price.

Turkish Airlines also has 15 Boeing 777-300ER planes as well.

With this order, Boeing has taken orders for 1,285 of the new 737 Max airplanes.

Congress Approves Bill To End FAA Sequestration Just In Time So Members Can Fly Home

Last night the U.S. Senate approved a bill that would re-instate $253 million to the FAA from budget cut backs that are part of the overall federal government's sequestration. Early this morning the House following suit. It passed in the Senate unanimously, and in the House with greater than 300 members on both side of the isle supporting the legislation. Congress is set to adjourn this afternoon and fly home for a week long break.

Lufthansa Cancels Nearly All Its Flight For Monday Due To Strike

The German airline Lufthansa has announced that it is cancelling all but 30 flights of the more than 1,700 scheduled for Monday as a result of a one-day strike by labor unions.

Lufthansa has suffered several previous one-day strikes over the past couple months as unions seek to improve their negotiating ability.

The airline has said that it is trying to cut cost to remain competitive amongst strong competition from low cost carriers and the Gulf carriers which are eating up large market shares of the premium travel market.

American Airlines Halts All Departures After Reservation System Goes Down

American Airlines' reservation system went down earlier today (Tuesday) and was forced to halt all flight departures until the system could be brought back online.

---Update: 4:42pm ET; American has begun cancelling some flights, an estimated 200 so far. American urged passengers to call ahead to confirm flight status. Delays are also likely to spread into tomorrow's flights as American struggles to get aircraft positioned in the correct place along with flight crews who have reached their maximum working hours allowed by the FAA---

Delta Flight Makes Emergency Landing In Orlando After Engine Failure

Orlando, Fla. -

Delta Flight 1526 was forced to return to Orlando after taking off and encountering an engine problem with its right engine, with initial reports stating the engine failed.

The flight had 150 people on board and landed safely back at Orlando International Airport without incident.

The plane was airborne for about 11 minutes before the engine problem was discovered on the MD-88 which was suppose to arrive and New York's LaGuardia airport at 10:36am, earlier this morning.

Lion Air Flight Skids Off Runway Into Ocean In Bali

A Lion Air Boeing 737 skidded off the runway in the resort island of Bali on Saturday. The plane was coming from Bandung, West Java when it was attempting to land at the Ngurah Rai Airport. The plan skidded off the runway and into the shallow waters 650 feet past the end of the runway.

The cause of the failed landing is underway. There are no reported injuries to the 101 passengers and seven crew on board.

Bankruptcy Judge Rejects $20 Million Severance For AMR Chief Tom Horton

New York City -

Bankruptcy Judge Sean Lane has denied AMR's $20 million severance package that was to be given to AMR Chief Tom Horton, AMR is the parent company of American Airlines which is still in bankruptcy and recently agreed to merge with U.S. Airways after significant pressure and a long campaign by U.S. Airways to American's creditors and unions.

In his ruling, Judge Lane said the payout was not allowed under bankruptcy law.

The severance package of about $19.9 million was divided equally between cash and stock, and was part of the companies' merger agreement in February.
