2 Swim To Safety After Plane Lands In Water

Overnight an airplane sank in Lake Disston near the Volusia-Flagler county line in central Florida when a plane attempted to land using its water floats when at least one of them did not respond properly and the plane began to sink, according to investigators on the scene of the incident.

Two people managed to swim to safety, the pilot and passenger, Allan and Kathrine Burrows of Port Orange.

Officials say they do not yet know what caused the sinking and they need to recover the plane before they can give more information.

TSA Announced New Rules For Carry-on Items; What,... Some Don't Make Sense?

John Pistole, head of the TSA, has announced that the TSA will be making a change to the rules for what a passenger can carry onto an airplane.

Although you are still banned from bringing a small box cutter onto the plane, you can now have a pocket knife with a blade no more than 2.36 inches long and a half an inch wide. And that's a good thing, because small box cutters with blades of 1 inch are far more deadly and dangerous than passengers wielding knives around with a huge blade of 2.36 inches long.

High Winds Damage 3 Airplanes At Orlando International Airport, Causes Delays

Orlando, Fla. -

According to airport officials, high winds have damaged three airplanes, one of which was blown into the former Airtran building. Two other planes hit each other then were knocked into a fuel truck.

Winds at the airport reached as high as 41 mph causing flight delays for a short period. OIA officials have said flight have since resumed normal operation.

None of the major airlines are believed to have been involved because the Airtran building is beyond the "zip line" and away from terminal and airside gate operations.

Syrian Leader Assad Says He Regrets Shooting down Turkish Plane, Would've Been Happy If It Was Israeli

In comments to Turkey's Cumhuriyet newspaper, Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad said that he was sorry his army shot down a Turkish airplane on June 22, calling the Turkish people friends and brothers. He added if it were an Israeli plane he would have been happy.

I would not wish it for any plane other than an enemy one. Especially for a Turkish plane, I say 100%, if only we did not shoot it down,... The Turkish people are our brothers and something that would make them sad would never make me happy and it did not. If this was an Israeli plane, of course, I would have been happy."

Venus To Make Rare Pass Between Sun And Earth June 5, 2012

The planet Venus will make a rare pass between the Earth and the Sun and will be visible worldwide on June 5, 2012. The event happens only twice every 120 years and this is the second passing, the last once was in 2004. It will also be the first time since the 1800's that it will be visible to all of North America.

As Venus transits the sun, it will appear as a black spot but will be a worldwide sensation according to NASA. The transit will begin at 3:09pm Pacific time and take nearly seven hours to make the pass, leaving the sun's glowing ball at about 9:45pm.

Residents Wake To Find A Boeing Airplane Sitting On Their Street; Unsure How it Got There

Overnight residents awoke to find a full size Boeing airplane on their street in front of their house, and no one was sure how it got there.

Police arrived shortly after the discovery and they too were baffled as to why the airplane was there. However, in talking to a tow truck driver, they soon learned the plane was being transported by an investor who had bought it to covert it into a restaurant in Lebanon and it was being transported through Jordan.

Police were apparently initially unaware of the move because they said it did not exceed height restrictions, therefore was legal.

Plane Crashes In Gulf Of Mexico After Pilot Became Unresponsive

[Updated: 2:57pm EST] The downed airplane that had been found upright and floating in the water about 120 miles off the coast has now sunk with no trace of the pilot while a Coast Guard airplane watched. Coast Guard officials said the plane landed "softly" but later sunk. The search has now been called off.

According to the FAA, it lost contact with an airplane about 133 miles off the southwest coast of Saint Petersburg Florida after its pilot was unresponsive. The pilot is a doctor from Slidell.

Russian Airline Suspends All Flights On ATR 72-200 Aircraft Following Siberian Crash

UTair Aviation of Russia has announced that it is grounding all of its ATR 72-200 aircraft following the crash of one of its ATR 72-200 in Siberia recently, saying it will wait until the result of that crash are found by investigators. The airline has three of these aircraft which is a twin engine turb prop.

The plane that crashed after take off from Tyumen, Siberia was 21 years old. So far 31 people have died.

Small plane crashes into a Publix Grocery Store in Deland, Florida

Sanford, Fla. -

Just after 7:30 pm tonight a small plane crashed into a popular Publix grocery store on East International Speedway Blvd. in Deland, Florida.

The plane had just taken off from nearby Deland Airport when it suddenly lost power. The pilot and a passenger climbed from the wreckage with their clothes on fire.

The pilot has been identified as Thomas Rhoades and the passenger is Kim Presbrey.

Underwear Bomber Sentenced To Life In Prison For Failed Bomb Attack On Jetliner In Detroit; Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab appeared Federal Court today in Detroit to be sentenced for having a bomb in his underwear as he flew into the U.S. on Christmas Day 2009 from Amsterdam on an Airbus A330, Northwest Airlines flight, and received a life sentence in federal Prison.

The mandatory punishment for Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the well-educated son of a wealthy banker, was never in doubt after he surprised the courtroom and pleaded guilty to all charges on the second day of trial last fall.
