Pilot Killed After Experimental Gyrocopter Plane Crashes Into Another Plane In Melbourne Florida

Melbourne, Fla. -

The pilot of a small experimental gyrocopter plane was killed this morning (Monday) after his aircraft slammed into a parked plan at the Valkaria Airport in southern Brevard County.

Witnesses report seeing the plane perform maneuvers shortly before 8:00am before loosing control and slamming into a parked plane near the north end of the runway.

According to the Brevard County Sheriff's department, the pilot had to be extracted out of the plane by specialized Fire/Rescue crews but was dead at the scene.

U.S. Airways Waives Ticket Change Fees In Boston As Area's Mass Transit Is Shut Down

U.S. Airways has waived the ticket change fees as police search for Chechnya bomber Dzhokar Tsarnaev in Boston as mass transit has been halted across the greater metro area causing delays in people getting to their flights.

We contacted United, American, Delta and JetBlue to see if they were also waiving ticket change fees. United said they were handling each passenger on a case-by-case basis and would work with passengers but did not issue a blanket waiver.

American Eagle Pilot Charged After Trying To Fly An Airplane Intoxicated

Following his arrested in January at the Minneapolis airport, American Eagle pilot Kolbjorn Kristiansen has been charged with operating or attempting to operate an aircraft with alcohol content of 0.04 or more and operating or attempting to operate an aircraft with alcohol content at 0.04 or more within two hours of a flight.

The initial breath test had returned a 0.107 concentration, and a later blood-alcohol test showed Kristiansen with a 0.09 percent, which is more than double Minnesota's legal limit for pilots.

Detroit Airport Re-Opened After Bomb Scare Forced Evacuation

The Detroit Metropolitan Airport has been reopened after a bomb scare earlier Monday morning forced the north terminal to be evacuated.

The scare started after TSA agents noticed something suspicious in a passengers carry-on bag and began to clear the area while the bomb squad was brought in to investigate the item.

The unidentified person carrying the suspicious item was not arrested but was detained while the search and investigation was being conducted. He has not been released yet according to local officials.

Flight Attendant Arrested At O'Hare After Being Caught With Loaded Gun At TSA Security Checkpoint

Chicago, IL -

An American Airlines flight attendant, 65-year-old Sheila A. Schultz, was arrested yesterday at Chicago's O'Hare airport after TSA found a loaded handgun in her bag while going through security.

The flight attendant said there has been a misunderstanding between herself and her husband because the gun belonged to her husband.

Schultz has been charged with one count of boarding an aircraft with a weapon and one count of possessing a firearm without an owner's identification card.

US Airways To Start New London Heathrow Service From Charlotte, NC

US Airways has reported that it has been awarded a landing slot at London Heathrow airport and will being non-stop service from its hub at Charlotte, NC to Heathrow using an Airbus A330 starting in march 2013.

"We are thrilled to make this announcement and look forward to starting service between Heathrow and Charlotte in March," said US Airways Chairman and CEO Doug Parker. "This new service will augment our existing trans-Atlantic network and provide more choices for customers in markets up and down the east coast."

Millennium bomber Ahmed Ressam Given Longer Sentence For LAX Bomb Plot

The bomber who crossed into the U.S. near Seattle plotting to blow up Los Angeles International Airport, Ahmed Ressam, was re-sentenced to to 37 years in prison.

He had been sentenced to a shorter term, but prosecutors argued that part of the deal was that he was suppose to help U.S. authorities with information about Al-Qaeda and other members.

Sometime in 2003 he stopped talking to officials after he had been placed in solitary-confinement for 23 hours a day.

Trains At Denver Airport Stop Working Causing Long Delays

The trains that move passengers between terminals and the gates stopped working earlier this morning around 7:00am which caused very long delays for thousands of passengers.

Airport operators were able to get four of the five to work eventually, but the back up forced many to miss their flights. Officials believe the computers that control the trains stopped working.

The lines to get through TSA security was running about 1 and a half hours.

Airport officials eventually put busses on stand-by.

In an effort to reduce the risk of midair collisions, new air traffic control procedures have begun at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. This change was prompted by a pair of near missed at the airport in 2011, in which planes came within a few hundred feet of each other during two separate incidents.
