Passengers Force Orlando Flight To Make Emergency Landing

Several passengers on board a Southwest Airlines flight from Orlando to Providence, RI forced the plane to make an emergency landing in Charleston, SC after becoming "unruly" and "disruptive" according to Southwest and FAA officials.

At least three passengers were removed from the flight before it continued onto Providence.

The plane had 134 passengers are crew on board.

The FBI greeted the passengers upon landing in Charleston and escorted them off the plane.

Shots Fired At Houston Airport, Police Find Dead Body At Terminal B

Houston, TX -

There has been a shooting at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport, IAH, just outside terminal B security checkpoint.

An unknown man with a AR-15 assault rifle was spotted by an Air Marshal and fired two shots into the air and was then shot at by the Air Marshal, but missed. He then took his own life by shooting himself with yet another pistol.

Man Arrested For Carrying Loaded Gun Through TSA Chckpoint

Orlando, Fla. -

Police have arrested 40-year-old Adolfo Requena of Colorado after a loaded gun was discovered in his bag as he went thought the TSA security checkpoint.

According to police, the gun was a 9mm handgun.

Requena was booked into the Orange County Jail, but has since been released on bail.

FAA To Close 238 Air Traffic Control Towers, Including 20 In Florida; See List

The FAA has released the list of ATC control towers they plan to close as part of the steps it is taking due to the federal government sequestration. Of the 238 towers that will close on April 7, 20 are in Florida.

195 of those towers are operated under contracts, while only 45 are operated by the FAA. Additionally, overnight operations at some airports will be curtailed, mostly likely class C airports, or mid-sized airports.

Winter Storm Over New England Cause Widespread Shutdowns For Airlines And Mass Transit

New York City -

Nearly all flights into the New York, Boston and Philadelphia area have now been cancelled, surpassing 4,000 by 1:00pm today. Most New England states have now declared states of emergencies, and put their National Guard units on notice, and called up some already.

Airlines have waived ticketing change fees due to the weather, resulting in a lot of people avoiding the area in advance of the storm.

Airlines Are Cancelling Flights Ahead Of Winter Storm Approaching The Northeast

As a strong winter storm approaches the northeast, airlines have already cancelled 370 flights by Friday afternoon in anticipation of the storm, which is expected to bring blizzard conditions to some, and heavy winter snow up to 2 feet beginning Friday night.

Most airlines have begun instituting weather waivers, allowing travelers to change their dates of travel to avoid becoming stranded by the weather and cancelled flights. There are no fees associated with weather waivers to change a ticket.

So Far, United has cancelled the most, followed by Delta, America and others.

Woman Punches TSA Worker At Orlando International Airport

Orlando, Fla. -

A Korean woman, Hyunjoo Kim, was arrested yesterday after she allegedly grabbed a TSA employee and pushed that employee and slapped another.

The incident started after she underwent a pat-down and was told she can not bring her over-sized lotion bottle past security, at that point the woman became upset and starting yelling and eventually took action against the TSA employees.

The woman was arrested and booked into the Orange County jail in Orlando and has since been released.

Florida Airports Warn of More Delays And Cancellations

Florida's airport have warned travelers of more delays and cancellations at Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville and Fort Lauderdale airports. Both Orlando and Miami are classified as very large airports and have significant international traffic as well, though it is the flights to an from the northeast that are being affected due to the storm passing over D.C., Philadelphia, New York and Boston areas.

There are approximately 178 flights a day on average from the northeast to Florida's airports, making it one of the busiest air travel corridors in the world.

The massive weather event moving its way across the U.S. has killed at least two, as blizzard conditions hit nine states, and a tornado outbreak races across the southeast states.
