Androids Grabs 68% Of Smartphone Market In The U.S., Apple Still Growing Also

For the second quarter of 2012, 68% of smartphones shipped were Android devices, with Samsung making up the largest portion of Androids at 44% in the United States.

Sales of Apple's iPhones were still growing in double digit figures, but slowing slightly as consumers hold off on buying a new iPhone, instead waiting for the release of the new iPhone, expected to be in September.

BlackBerry and Symbian accounted for just 4.8% and 4.4% respectively and continue to struggle from loosing more market share.

Apple And Samsung Ordered To Mediation To Resolve Patent Dispute

San Francisco, CA -

A federal magistrate had ordered Apple and Samsung top executives to attend mediation in the hopes of resolving a patent dispute in which Apple claims Samsung "slavishly" copied some Apple products.

Neither Apple's Tim Cook or Samsung's Choi Gee-sung were at the court hearing in what has become a global patent dispute involving 20 cases in 10 different countries.

Apple, the maker of the iPod, iPad and iPhone, has a complex relationship with Samsung, a conglomerate that makes computer chips, Galaxy smartphones, and televisions.

US Trade Commission Bans Import of Motorola's Popular Droid And Blur Smartphones To The United States

The US International Trade Commission has ruled that Motorola can not import it's popular Droid and Blur smartphones that use the Android operating system, siding with Microsoft who accused Motorola Mobility of violating patents.

The ruling covers 18 Motorola devices in all, and must now either pay Microsoft 33 cents for each device or stop all imports within 60 days. The only other remedy is for Motorola to alter the software used on the smartphone.

Fake Angry Birds Space Infects Android Phones

A fake version of the popular Angry Birds Space is affecting Android phones according to web security firm Sophos. Angry Bird maker Rovio is asking that users only download the game from Rovio in Google Play, formerly known as the Android Marketplace.

FBI Asked Google To Unlock Phone of Suspect of "Pimpin Hoes Daily" Street Gang

The FBI has asked Google to override a users lockout of his Android Smartphone as part of an investigation of a suspect. This was uncovered by a privacy researcher at Indian University, Christopher Soghoian, according to an affidavit the FBI has filed in court.

The FBI's forensic lab could not get past the phone's 'pattern lock' and then phone went into a master lock mode which is only able to be undone with a Google account's username and password.

According to new research out, smartphones now outnumber basic mobile phones says the Pew Internet & American Life Project.

The study showed that the number of smartphone users have grown across all age and demographics, but was especially strong in the 18-35 age group and those making $70,000 or more a year.
