10 Million Downloads Of Google Maps For iOS Since Wednesday

Google Maps has become the top app in the App Store in a little over three hours after its release Wednesday, with over 10 million downloads as iOS users seek to dump their Apple Maps.

"We're excited for the positive reception of Google Maps for iPhone around the world," said Jeff Huber, SVP of geo and commerce at Google.

The much awaited launch was well received by iOS users who had quickly found that the new Apple Maps that came with iOS 6 was not working as deisgned.

While most still have the mindset that being hacked involves your desktop or laptop computer, increasingly, its actually smartphones that are are giving up your secrets to intruders.

The newest trend for hackers is being spreadheaded by mobile apps which often collect and use personal and priviate information about you, sometimes in unintended and inappropriate ways along with harvesting your credit and debit card information stored in your phone's contact info or from the phone's cache from other legitimate purchased you've made.

Now that the new iPhone 5 is out, along with iOS 6, I've compared the map and satellite features of both, plus the Passbook app.  Let me upfront to say I am an iPhone lover, and am enjoying my new iPhone 5 that I got last week when it was released.  I'm not going to go over the usual tech-no-babble specs, just the usability features.

United's New Mobile App Allows Groups To Link Boarding Passes Into One For Security Screenings

United has updated its mobile boarding app to allow for groups traveling together on the same reservation to link their boarding passes together to get through TSA checkpoints, allowing everyone in the group to pass together.

In the new app, multiple boarding passes all together allowing the group to view everything all in one place. This feature is available at any airport that is set up for mobile boarding passes.

RIM Unveils Blackberry 10 And Shows It Off In Orlando With 2 Separate Conferences

Canadian smartphone maker RIM has unveiled its Blackberry 10 this week in Orlando in two separate conferences, Blackberry World and Blackberry Jam with CEO Thorsten Heins delivering today's keynote.

The company handed out new Blackberries to attendees, but only a light demo version was functional, designed to give people a hint at what's coming with the new Blackberry. And just a hint is what it was, with most of the features of the new Blackberry removed or disabled, and instead showing limited demos and videos showing off what the phone is hoped to be able to do.

iTV Makes Other Television Makers Scramble, Production To Start In Feb 2012

Apple's iTV has been swirling around for a while now but it looks as if it is finally becoming a reality. Sharp Electronics is retooling a plant in Japan under an Apple contract and TV makers have began scrambling to figure out what's in store for them.

Sadly, or not, a recent poll by the electronics industry show that if or when the iTV came out, the iTV would surpass sales of even the best known makers like Sony and Sharp within 1 year. All other TV manufacturers would be at least 12 months behind the curve in the best case scenario, but more likely 2 years.

Blackberry Services Out For 3rd Day, Research in Motion Struggles As Problem Spreads Across Globe

Millions of Blackberry users are entering their third day without text or messaging service, and patchy emails service, along with a long line of other intermitted services.

Initially Research In Motion, the owners and developers of Blackberry smartphones, said they had contained the problem and said it was a switching problem on their private network, but then the problem continued to spread beyond North America to the Middle east, Europe, South America and parts of Asia by Wednesday morning.
