Obama Approves More Non-Leathal Aid For Syrian Rebels

President Obama has approved more non-leather aid for Syrian rebels who have been fighting a bloody civil war against the Syrian government, lead by Bashar al-Assad in which an estimated 70,000 people have died so far and 2 million have fled the country.

The decisions was apparently made last week during a national security meeting, but the details have not been finalized yet but is likely to include communications equipment, defensive materials and medicine according to some defense analyst.

U.S. Army Veteran Arrested Aftering Fighting For Al-Qaeda Linked Terrorist Group

U.S. officials have arrested 30-year old Eric Harroun on charges of conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction and conspiracy to provide aid to a terrorist group.

The FBI said it arrested Harroun at Washington's Dulles Airport when he returned to the United States after allegedly fighting with Al Nusra, a terrorist organization. He did not have his American passport, claiming that he lost it in the fighting in Syria.

While Al Nusra is just one of many groups fighting against the Bashar al-Assand regime in Syria, the State Department has labeled it a terrorist organization.

Jordan Closes Its Border With Syria As Syrian Civil War Fighting Gets Close

Jordan has closed its border with Syria as government forces and rebels fight near the border, this is the first time Jordan has closed it border during the Syrian civil war.

"The border post is effectively closed because there have been clashes since yesterday and they are continuing," minister Samih Maaytah told the press.

The border crossing is with the souther Syrian province of Deraa, which has had significant and increased fighting over the last several months, with occasional spill over into Jordan.

Reports Of Chemical Weapons Being Used In Syria

There are new reports that allegedly chemical weapons have been used in Syria for the first time in the 2 year old civil war. Both the Syrian government and rebels blame the other and accuse each other of using such weapons of mass destruction.

The Syrian government is claiming the rebels use a rocket with a chemical warhead to attack the town of Khan al-Asal in Aleppo province in which 25 people were said to have been killed. Syrian state TV has shown people in hospitals with what appears to be respiratory distress, vomiting and nervous system damage.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's Regime Reaches out To BRIC Countries For Help

The Syrian regime leader Bashar al-Assad has reached out to BRIC countries asking for their help to stop what Syria calls "western interference" as the nation continues a civil war now well on its way to a third year.

BRIC nations are a block of the top five emerging economies and is a grouping acronym that refers to the countries of Brazil, Russia, India and China, which are all deemed to be at a similar stage of newly advanced economic development. South Africa is now a part of the grouping.

Syrian Rebels Rebuff U.S. Non-Lethal Aid Offer Of Food And Medical

Secretary of State John Kerry has offered $60 million in non-lethal aid directly to Syrian rebels at a conference in Rome and was immediately followed with a statement from Gen. Salim Idris, chief of staff of the Syrian opposition's Supreme Military Council, saying they need bullets not beans.

The U.S. aid consists of medical first aid supplies and food, such as MRE's the U.S. military forces eat when deployed in the field.

The U.S. is looking for ways to provide non-lethal support to Syrian rebels that have been engaged in a 2 year bloody civil war that started after Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad brutally cracked down on protestors seeking reforms as part of the Arab Spring that swept into the Middle East.

Secretary Clinton Testifies Before Congress Over Benghazi Attack On U.S. Embassy

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton went before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Capital Hill to testify about the attacks on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

Clinton, in testimony, took responsibility for the State Department's failures while also stating that she did not have direct knowledge of the events as they unfolded.

Clinton also said the State Department will implement all 29 recommendations of a recent review of security and management procedures.

Dozens Killed In Bomb Explosion At Aleppo Universtiy In Syria

More than 50 people have been killed by two bombs that exploded on the Aleppo University campus in Syria earlier today. Officials say the bombs went off between a residential hall and the agricultural facility.

There are conflicting numbers as to the exact casualty count, The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (based in London) put the death toll at 52, while Syrian government officials say 82 were killed and that it was the work of terrorist.

Russia Sending Naval Ships To Syria As Assad Slowly Loses Control

Russia has dispatched five naval ships to Tartus, a Russian port in Syria stating that is is positioning the ships in case they need to evacuate Russian nationals from Syria.

The ships, a destroyer, a tugboat, a tanker and two large amphibious vessels that could evacuate hundreds of people, and three other ships also departed from Severomorsk, the main base of Russia's Northern Fleet. The later are officially being sent an part of an anti-piracy task force to the waters off Somalia and Yemen, but could linger in the Mediterranean as they pass through the area.
