Colorado Prosecutors Seek Death Penalty For James Holmes In Movie Theater Shooting Massacre

Prosecutors in Aurora, Colorado have announced they are seeking the death penalty for James Holmes who is accused of the movie theater shooting massacre in which 12 people died and 58 were injured.

"I don't know if it's painful. I want him dead. I just want to be there in the room when he dies," Bryan Beard said outside the Colorado courthouse. "He took one of my friends from this Earth. Death equals death."

Colorado Movie Threater Shooter James Holmes Has Not Guilty Plea Entered For Him

The suspect in the Colorado movie theater shooting, James Holmes, had a not guilty please entered for him by the judge at an arraignment hearing earlier today. Holmes is charged with 166 counts of murder, attempted murder and other charges stemming from him booby-trapping his apartment.

According to court documents by the defense, it still may raise the insanity defense, something that would stymy any attempt by prosecutors to go for the death penalty.

Holmes' trial date has been set for August 5, 2013.

Two Coronal Mass Ejections Headed Towards Earth Expected To Create Geomagnetic Storms

NASA has reported that its SOHO, Solar and Heliospheric Observatory, has detected two large Coronal Mass Ejections, CME, from the sun on November 23, travel as approximately 375 miles per second, or 1,350,000 mph.

The two earth directed CME's are expected to reach earth sometime on or about Nov 25-26 and are expected to create geomagnetic storms and auroras near the North and South poles as the CME particles make contact with earth's magnetosphere, or magnetic envelope.

Attorneys For Accused Movie Theater Shooter James Holmes Ask To Delay Preliminary Hearing

The attorneys representing 24-year-old James Holmes, the man accused of shooting and killing 12 people and injuring many more in an Aurora Colorado movie theater, have asked the judge to delay the preliminary hearing.

Judge William Sylvester did not immediately rule on the defense's motion and said it will be decided during the next status hearing set for Oct 25.

"This is an extraordinarily large case," said defense attorney Tamara Brady, who made the request.

Prosecutors In Colorado Shooting Motion To File 10 New Charges

Prosecutors in the Aurora Colorado movie threater shooting have filed a motion in court seeking to add 10 new charges against James Holmes, the man who have been accused of the shootings which resulted in 12 dead and dozens more injured.

If the court approves the motion, it would bring the total charges against Holmes to 152. Separate motions were also filed to amend 16 counts of attempted murdeer and the on count of "crime of violence" sentence enhancement.

A spokeperson for the 18th Judicial District Attorney's office said due to the gag order she count not comment on the filings.

Colordao Shooter Charged with 24 Counts Of Murder, 116 Counts of Attempted Murder

The Aurora Colorado movie theater shooting suspect, 24-year-old James Eagan Holmes, has been charged with 24 counts of murder, 116 counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of explosives.

12 people died in the shooting that took place during the opening showing of the newest Batman movie 'Dark Knight Rises' on July 20th. Another 58 people were wounded in the incident.

Specifically, it is 12 counts of first degree murder and 12 counts of murder with extreme indifference.

Gun Sales Up Nationwide And In Colorado Following Shooting

According to reports by the Colorado Bureau of Investigations, along with other agencies and public reports elsewhere, gun sales are up following the shooting in Aurora, Colorado.

In Colorado, sales are up 43%, while nationwide, sales are up 9% as people flock to gun stores hoping to "ease their sense of vulnerability to being a victim in a violent crime" according to physiologist Nancy Roerbuk. She adds that this reaction is not much different than a homeowner who has had a break and installs a home alarm system, or someone who was mugged starts carry pepper spray.

Hollywood is very sensitive to crimes committed that resemble movies the studios have produced and actors have been making public statements offering condolences and support to the recent Colorado movie theater shootings.

The movie "The Watch" was originally named "The Neighborhood Watch" but changed it after the murder of Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Florida, hoping to distance itself from negative association by movie-goers. Actors from New York to Los Angeles to Sydney Australia have offered public solidarity with the victims and families of the shooting in Aurora.

The lastest installment of the Batman films has come in third for highest opening weekend ever for a movie at $160.9 million. Only The Avengers and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2 did better.

But the nation is still jittery about the shootings in Colorado, there have been multiple incidents around the country of police having to respond to movie theaters after crowds became spooked and fled the theater.
