Chinese Company Buys AMC Movie Theaters

The Dalian Wanda Group of Beijing China has bought AMC Entertainment Group for $2.6 billion making Wanda the largest movie theater chain owner in the world. Wanda already owns 94 movie theaters in China and is a privately owned company that also operated hotels and tourist venues.

In a statement, Wanda Group said they will invest another $500 million and keep AMC's headqauters in Kansas City, MO. The takeover is the largest of an U.S. based company by a the Chinese.

Man Rides Bike From China To Streets Of London To Spread Olympic Spirit

After becoming wrapped up in the Olympics spirit during the Beijing Olympics in 2008, 57-year-old Chen Guanming has rode his 3-wheeled rickshaw bike from China to London to carry the Olympic spirit and its message.

He traveled 86,992 miles over the last two years through 16 countries to make it to London where he has been received by the London people with cheers and admiration and offers of accommodations.

"I'm a big fan of Olympic Games," he told the news organization. "I wanted to come here because I wanted the whole world to support the Olympics and be part of it."

Chinese Dissident Chen Guangcheng Leaves For New York City On United Airlines Flight From Beijing

A month after Chen Guangcheng escaped his house arrest in Shandong province, Chen, along with his wife and two kids, have finally boarded a United Airlines flight to Newark Liberty International Airport, just outside New York City.

Chen's escape and arrival at the US Embassy in Beijing where he stayed under the protection of US officials spiraled into an international incident and has proven embarrassing for China.

Chen is due to arrive into the US early evening and has been granted enrollment at New York University to study law.

Chinese Dissident Chen Guangcheng Wants To Leave China; Says He Was Pressured To Leave US Embassy

Complicating US-Chinese relations further, the Chinese blind dissident Chen Guangcheng who escaped his captors keeping him on house arrest and made it to the US Embassy in Beijing now has told western news outlets that he wants to leave China and that he left the US Embassy after being pressured by the Chinese government over fears that they will continue to imprison and torture his wife.

Chen said he wants to leave China with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who is in China now for talks about trade agreements and other issues.

China Blocks News Of Dissident Escape To US Embassy, Crackdowns On Activists; US Diplomat Arrives In Beijing

China's security services have begun a wide-spread crackdown on activists and dissidents in an attempt to find out who helped Chen Guangcheng escape his house arrest and get to the US Embassy and has also been blocking news of the blind dissident's escape.

Chen, who is blind, faked an illness for a prolonged period to get his guards to ease their watch over him and then successfully escaped his house and was taken by a network of activist and dissidents across China to the US Embassy, deemed the only safe place in China for such activists.

Blind Chinese Dissident Chen Guangcheng Escapes House Arrest And Flees To US Embassy In Beijing

Well known Chinese Dissident Chen Guangcheng has escaped his house arrest in the Shandong province and is at the US Embassy in Beijing according to fellow dissidents who helped him escape. Mr. Guangcheng is blind and was released on house arresting from his four year prison sentence for protesting government human rights abuses.

Chen has made three demands:
1- Premier Wen investigate and prosecute local officials Mr Chen says beat up his family members
2- The safety of his family be ensured
3- Corruption in general in China be dealt with and punished according to the law

Beijing Capital Airport Suffering Extensive Delays Due To Smog Since Sunday; Even Auto Traffic To Airport Had To be Closed

Extensive flight delays at Beijing Capital Airport have been cascading since Sunday due to smog. Flights are not expected to resume a normal schedule for several more days or a week.

Chinese authorities say there is no smog, that everyone is mistaken, it is actually fog. However the American Embassy in Beijing has an air quality monitoring station on its roof and recorded that the particulate pollutants have risen to 522 since Sunday. A range of 300 to 500 is considered hazardous, and most average days in Beijing range between 250 and 400 depending on where you stand.
