Suspicious Brush Fires Off I-4 Contained But Still Be Monitored For Possible Closure This Weekend

The brush fires that shut down I-4 east and westbound yesterday are still be monitored but are now also being investigated as suspicious. The blaze yesterday affected 75 acres and caused the interstate to close near the critical attractions areas yesterday. Orange County Fire Rescue reports that there were no lightning strikes or controlled burns yesterday that could have ignited the fire.
All lanes are open as of now however Florida Highway Patrol is keeping a close eye on the situation and depending on the weather there may be road closures this weekend.

Wildland Brush Fires Burn Across Central Florida Causing Health Problems And Some Evacuations

Fire officials are battling brush fires in several spots in Central Florida Including Bithlo, Deltona and Osteen which is being called the Ford Fire by the Florida Forest Service

Extremely dry conditions resulting from a mild winter and the drought Florida is experiencing has caused a record number of wildland brush fires across Florida and along the entire East Coast.

Squirrels Blamed In At Least 4 Florida Wildland Brush Fires

Squirrels are taking the blame for wildland brush fires in South Florida and officials say there is nothing they can do about the fire-starting squirrels.

In fact, squirrels have been implicated in at least four separate fires, with one of those fire burning down the house of a local church pastor.

Sounds funny, but it's true say Leigh Acres Fire Department officials. Florida is in the midst of a severe drought and with no significant rain forecasted across the state anytime in the foreseeable future, and the Florida Forest Service says conditions will only get worse.

A dry and mild winter added with an early spring/summer has created a tinderbox like condition throughout the eastern United States causing record numbers of wildland fires and smaller brush fires.

Brush Fire In Palm Bay Ignites Propane Tank And House Fire

Palm Bay, Fla. -

Firefighters are investigating how a brush fire was started that eventually ignited a propane tank and a house fire near West Oaks Park on Lamplighter Drive in Palm Bay.

The house suffered major damage with the fire spreading into other parts of the house and attic, however there were no injuries reported.

Lake County Fire Rescue Has Wildfire 75% Contained In Clermont, Says It is Arson Related

Clermont, Fla. -

A Brush fire that has burned more than 1,000 acres in Clermont is about 75% contained following a temporary closure of SR 50 near county road 561.

The Florida Forest Service has said the fire is arson related but would not give more details.

So far the fire has not caused any damage to homes or businesses. Firefighters expect to gain full control of the fire today once the expected rains move in.
