Canada Arrests 2 Al-Qaeda Linked Terrorist In Plot To Blow Up Train To U.S.

Canadian officials have arrested two men who were plotting to blow up a passenger train that travels from Canada to the U.S.

Royal Canadian Mount Police, RCMP, say the two suspects are Al-Qaeda linked terrorist who were planning to blow up a VIA railway train in the greater Toronto area.

The two suspects arrested, Chiheb Esseghaier, 30, and Raed Jaser, 35, have been charged with "receiving support from al Qaeda elements in Iran" and conspiracy to murder according to Assistant Police Commissioner James Malizia.

Canada Closes Iranian Embassy Saying Iran Is Biggest Threat To Global Security

Canada is closing its embassy in Iran and ordered all Iranian diplomats in Canada out within five days saying Iran is the biggest threat to global security and said "Diplomatic relations between Canada and Iran have been suspended," Foreign Minister John Baird said.

In making the decisions, Baird said Iran's support of Syrian president Assad, its nuclear program and hostility towards Israel was the main reasons for taking these steps.

Iceberg Double The Size Of Manhattan Break Off From Petermann Glacier In Greenland

An iceberg more than two times the size of Manhattan has broken off the Petermann Glacier in Greenland according to a report by the University of Delaware.

The iceberg, 59-square miles in size, is the second largest iceberg break in recent years. In 2010 an iceberg more than 4 times the size of Manhattan broke off as well, and global climatologist are asking if it is due to global warming.

2 Seattle Men Busted By Border Patrol For Candy Smuggling

The Customs and Border Patrol briefly detained two Seattle men after discovering illegal candy in their possession while crossing into the United States.

Brandon Loo and Christopher Sweeney were detained for about two hours by CBP at the U.S./Canadian border as they were re-entering the United States for illegally transporting candy prohibited in the United States deemed to be a choking hazard.

Blackberry Maker RIM Says It Will Cut 5,000 Job As Part Of Restructuring

In an effort to stem the ever encroaching tide of disappointment, Blackberry maker RIM said it will be starting a new restructuring plan and that 5,000 employees will be laid off as a result.

The smartphone maker has suffered numerous setbacks and product launch failures as it struggled to keep up with Apple's iPhone and Google's Android OS smartphones and tablets.

RIM profits were down again on year-over-year earnings, and losses were higher than analysts expectations of $.07 per share, instead loosing $.30 cents per share.

G8 Summit Begins At Camp David With Obama Welcoming World's Most Powerful Leaders

President Obama is welcoming leaders of the world's most powerful countries to Camp David as the start of the G8 Summit begins. G8, or Group of Eight, consists of the U.S., Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Canada and Russia.

In choosing Camp David, Obama said he wanted his guests to feel at ease and comfortable in order to hold "direct and frank" talks in an effort to get top issues solved.

Miss Universe Contest Ends Ban On Transgender Contestants After Canadian Jenna Talackova Controversy

The Miss Universe annual pageant is ending its ban against transgender contestants following contestant Jenna Talackova of Canada being previously banned in comments by owner Donald Trump. The contest was facing legal threats of a lawsuit from famed lawyer Gloria Allred who advocated on women's rights among other things.

Pageant owner Donald Trump says he made the decision two days before he even knew about Glorida Allred's involvement and said had he known, he might have kept the ban just because she is "easy to beat."

Canadian Cheese Maker Fromagerie Marie Kade Forced To Recall Cheese In U.S. Due To Contamination

Health officials in Massachusetts are urging people who have bought cheese under the brand name Fromagerie Marie Kade to not eat the cheese because it is contaminated with listeria.

Fromagerie Marie Kade is a Canadian company. Food stores have begun removing cheese from the maker and consumers are urges to return any uneaten cheese to the store.

An investigation has been launched into where the contamination originated and the extent of it.

Symptoms of listeria include fever, headaches, stiffness and diarrhea.

BlackBerry Maker RIM Announces Continued Dismal Earnings, and Poor Sales Results, Firesales Its PlayBook

In keeping with recent traditions, BlackBerry maker Research In Motion announced it will not meet its earning expectations again, citing horrible sales of what it hoped would be a saving grace, the PlayBook tablet.

Since 2007 when widespread smartphone use began with the introduction of the iPhone, BlackBerry has been losing market share and was further hobbled with its expensive acquisition of the Palm OS which has netted it nothing productive and the late-to-market PlayBook have continued to pummel the Canadian technology manufacturer ever since.
