Stabbing of 15 at Houston Area Lone Star College Campus Creates Chaos

Houston, TX -

There has been a stabbing at the Lone Star community college on the CyFair campus in Cypress, Tx, with between 11 and 14 students injured, 4 in critical condition. Update: officials now report there are 15 known stabbing victims now.

Harris County Sheriff's officials added that at least a few students refused treatment at the scene.

According to Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department spokesman Robert Rasa, at least 12 have been taken to local hospitals, including the 4 critically injured who were flown by helicopter.

UCF President John Hitt To Get $26,500 Annual Raise As School Rises

Orlando, Fla. -

UCF Trustees have approved a $26,500 annual raise for the school's president, John Hitt, bringing his annual salary to $490,000.

Hitt's 6% pay increase is the first since 2006 when pay raises were frozen.

Hitt is also among 10 other current and former administrators who will share a $448,887 in performance based bonuses. Hitt will receive $188,740 of the total, with most of it coming from private funds.

The bonuses were tied to overall graduation rates, SAT scores and fundraising for the campuses.

Tallahassee Apt Floor Collapsed During College Party Injuring 30

Tallahassee, Fla.-

30 college students were injured when the second floor of the Seminole Grand Apartments clubhouse collapsed during a party attended by many Florida A&M students.

According to reports, most suffered broken bones and sprains, but there were no life-threatening injuries.

About a dozen people were taken to the hospital for injuries sustained during the collapse which some described as a "roller coaster with no seat belts".

State investigators will conduct an investigation into the collapse.

3 U.S. Colleges Evacuated After Bomb Threats Called In By Man With Middle Eastern Accent

Three university campuses had to be evacuated today following bomb threats made via telephone by a man that had a "middle eastern accent" say those who received the calls.

University of Texas Austin, North Dakota State University and Valparaiso University in Indiana all were the subject of a caller making the threats.

No bombs have been found so far in any of the campuses and UT Austin has cancelled classes for the rest of the day.

The bomb threats came in around 8:30am today with the caller saying the bombs would go off in 90 minutes.

Between 15-29 Years Old? Your Chances of Getting A Job Are Going Down

According to a new study by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, if you're between the ages of 15 to 29, you're chances of getting a good paying job are low at best.

The study was conducted in developed nations such as the United States, Canada, France, Spain, Germany, Japan, Australia, Italy, Israel, Norway, and other typical western nations one might think of. It found that 16% of those young people were not in school and were not working. This is the highest percentage since the survey's were first conducted.

Stetson University Fields First Football Team In 56 Years

Deland, Fla. -

Stetson University has returned to football by fielding its first team in 56 years. More than 100 players, mostly freshmen, have been recruited and joined the newly formed team that is ran by head coach Roger Hughes, who previously coached at Princeton.

The Stetson Hatters will be competing in the Pioneer Football League, a Division I Football Championship Subdivision conference.

Training camp has already began, but the school's first game won't be until next year.

Obama Threatens To Veto Student Loan Bill; OMB Calls The Bill Politically Motivated

President Barack Obama has threatened to veto a bill by republicans that keeps the federal student loan rate lower, something that was about to go up, nearly doubling from 3.4% to 6%. Both Obama and republicans had recently said they need to act to keep the rate from going up.

The OMB has called the bill "politically motivated" and said the republicans were not at all "serious" about lowering the federal student loan rate, going on to say this is political "grand-standing" so they can say they tried to lower the federal student loan rate but Obama blocked it.

Florida Polytechnic Newest School In Polk County After Gov. Signs Senate Bill 1994; No Longer Part Of USF

Florida governor Rick Scott has signed into law SB 1994 creating Florida Polytechnic university, splitting it off from its former collegiate partner USF.

The new university will be the state's 12th public university and will start as its own on July 1st, and will get $33 million in initial funds from the state.

So far the logistics have not been worked out, and many faculty and staff are wondering what it means for them.

One of the stated goals is for the newest Florida university to gain national and international prestige with leading scientific studies.

Jerry Sandusky Trial Pushed Back 3 Weeks By Judge Following Several Motions

The trial of Jerry Sandusky, who is facing sex related crimes, has been postponed until June 5th. The judge agreed the trial should be postponed following several motions Sandusky filed last week.

Jerry Sandusky is 68 years old and was the defensive coordinator for Penn State college football team. He has been implicated in sex crimes related to his charity foundation involving minors.
