Congress Approves Bill To End FAA Sequestration Just In Time So Members Can Fly Home

Last night the U.S. Senate approved a bill that would re-instate $253 million to the FAA from budget cut backs that are part of the overall federal government's sequestration. Early this morning the House following suit. It passed in the Senate unanimously, and in the House with greater than 300 members on both side of the isle supporting the legislation. Congress is set to adjourn this afternoon and fly home for a week long break.

Montana Senator Max Baucus Believed To Be Retiring

Montana Democratic Senator Max Baucus is planning to retire according to party insiders. Baucus has served six terms as one of Montana's two senators.

Baucus serves on the powerful Senate Finance Committee and is facing a tough re-election battle in 2014.

According to state party members, this will allow the more popular former Democratic Gov. Brian Schweitzer of Montana to run for the seat.

Despite being a democrat, Baucus is one of a few democrats who voted against gun reform legislation in the senate recently.

Toxic Ricin Letter Sent To Mississippi Senator Roger Wicker

Federal authorities say they have recovered a letter sent to U.S. Sen Roger Wicker (R-MS) that contained the toxin known as ricin on Tuesday.

The incoming mail facility for the U.S. Capital building and congressional office has been shut.

The substance was first detected on a letter at a remote processing facility that was bound for congressional offices and is under going decontamination.

U.S. Postal Service Ends Efforts To Stop Saturday Delivery Service

The U.S. Postal Service has said that it has stopped pushing to end its Saturday delivery service in order to close budget shortfalls because congress couldn't pass legislation.

The Postal Service is a branch of the federal government but it run like a private corporation without any taxpayer money.

In the past, the USPS operated at a profit, but as the internet boomed as well as digital signatures and new security methods, along with coupon and spam mail, the Post Office began loosing money and now operates with $15 billion in debt hanging over its head.

Obama Approves More Non-Leathal Aid For Syrian Rebels

President Obama has approved more non-leather aid for Syrian rebels who have been fighting a bloody civil war against the Syrian government, lead by Bashar al-Assad in which an estimated 70,000 people have died so far and 2 million have fled the country.

The decisions was apparently made last week during a national security meeting, but the details have not been finalized yet but is likely to include communications equipment, defensive materials and medicine according to some defense analyst.

Obama's Federal Budget Cuts And Tax Plan Angers Both Republicans And Democrats

President Obama has sent his version of a federal budget to congress setting off complaints from both sides of the aisle, democrats and republicans, who say his $3.77 trillion budget is unrealistic.

Republicans are upset with the budget proposal because Obama seeks to raise taxes on the richest Americans and democrats don't like the buts to socials security and medicare.

Republican Congressman Calls Hispanics/Latinos "Wetbacks" During Interview

Rep. Don Young (Alaska) came under criticism after referring to Hispanics and Latinos as "wetbacks" during an interview with a local Alaskan radio station, KRBD.

When speaking about the use of migrant workers, Young said, "I used to own -- my father had a ranch. We used to hire 50 to 60 wetbacks to pick tomatoes," he said. "You know, it takes two people to pick the same tomatoes now."

When asked later about his comment later, Young did not apologize and said that he was just using a term from the bygone days when he lived in central California.

Tea Party Republican Rand Pual Endorses Path To Citizenship for Illegal Immigrants

In what may called a surprise, leading Tea Party Republican Ran Paul has announced that he now supports a path to citizenship for the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the country.

Senator Paul said that he believes most should get to become tax payers and eventually a chance at citizenship.

Long Lines At TSA Checkpoints As Sequestration Takes Effect

Long lines have been reported at several TSA security checkpoints around the country as the effects of sequestration kick in.

We are already seeing the effects," Homeland Secretary Janet Napolitano said, citing TSA lines that are “150 to 200 percent as long as we would normally expect.”

The TSA has denied overtime, effective immediately, and instituted a hiring freeze. Both have seen immediate affects as lines in some airports are nor 150%-200% longer than normal, with wait times surpassing 1 hour in some cases.

U.S. Military Cuts Deep Due To Sequestration And Stalled Congress

The military has said it is making deep cuts into deployments, maintenance and construction in an effort to save money due to the mandatory spending cuts imposed by congress after congress failed to reach a spending deal on Friday.

Naval officials have said they have delayed or cancelled deployment of an aircraft carrier, 4 air wings, and will furlough thousands of civilian contractors.
