Italian Judge Orders Costa Concordia Capt. Francesco Schettino To Stand Trial For Manslaughter

Italian judge Pietro Molino has agreed with prosecutors that the captain of the sunken ship Costa Concordia should stand trial for manslaughter.

32 people died after the ship traveled off course near the island of Giglio so that a friend could see the island. The ship hit underwater rocks and reefs which caused the ship to sink on Jan 13, 2102.

Federal Judge Dismisses Lawsuit In Costa Concordia Capsizing By Italian Businesses

Miami, Fla. -

U.S. District Judge Robin Rosenbaum has dismissed a lawsuit filed by Italian businesses seeking damages against Carnival Corp which is based in Miami, Florida.

Carnival Corp., the parent company to Costa Concordia and Carnival Cruise Lines, argued in court the lawsuit belongs in Italian jurisdiction because that is where the incident happened. Nearly, 1,000 Italian businesses are seeking to sue Carnival for the capsizing of the Costa Concordia on Jan 13 in which 32 people died.

Costa Concordia To be Raised & Salvaged By Pompano Beach's Titan Salvage

Titan Salvage of Pompano Beach Florida will be undertaking the complex job of raising and salvaging the wrecked Costa Concordia which partially sank off the Italian island of Giglio after passing to close to the island and hitting rocks which tore open a massive hole in the ship. 35 people were killed when the ship partially sank on its side.

The project is worth $288 million and still must be approved by Italian regulators, but that approval is expected.

3 More Bodies Found At Site Of Costa Concordia Ship Wreck

Rome, Italy -

Italian officials have said they found and recovered three more bodies from the ship wreck of the Costa Concordia which nearly capsized and did sink just off shore near the Italian island of Giglio. This raises the number of bodies found to 28 with four still missing, and presumed dead still somewhere in the wreckage.

Italian Civil Protection Agency Franco Gabrielli made the announcement about the newly found bodies earlier today.

The passengers of the stricken ship Costa Allegra finally began to disembark their ship in the Seychelles, where it was towed, after it was adrift for days with no power, electricity or water after a fire broke out in the engine room disabling the entire ship. 627 passengers had been forced to sleep on the decks of the ship as it drifted with no electricity for air conditioning in the stifling heat.

In yet another blow to the Costa Crociere SpA cruise line a second of their vessels is in the news for its disablement. This time there were no fatalities aboard the Costa Allegra which suffered a fire in its engine room. The 1,000 passengers and crew are safe aboard the ship that is without power after the fire occurred on Monday. “The shipboard fire-extinguishing system and emergency procedures were activated promptly and special fire-fighting squads extinguished the fire,” the company said in a statement released.

Costa Concordia victims begin filling suits

Passengers who survived the doomed Costa Concordia respond to the companies offer of $14,000 for their losses with the first of many lawsuits. Friday afternoon a suit on behalf of six passengers is seeking $10 million in compensatory damages and an additional $450 million in punitive damages. So far two law firms out of New York are working together to represent hundreds of clients while a consumer advocacy group in Italy works with them.

2 More Bodies Found In Wreckage Of Costa Concordia, Total Now 15; Investigation Ramps Up

Italian officials have announced that they have recovered two more bodies from the Costa Concordia bringing the total of confirmed dead to 15. The two women were found on Bridge 4, near the ship's Internet cafe, said Franco Gabrielli, the official in charge of the operation. 17 more still remain unaccounted for and are presumed dead while investigators ramp up their efforts to find out what happened and into Capt. Francesco Schettino's behavior, he is now being dubbed "Chicken of the Sea" as reports suggest he was once of the early people to leave the ship.

Several Americans Still Missing After Italian Cruise Ship Costa Concordia Nearly Sinks

The Italian cruise ship Costa Concordia struck a large undersea rock and nearly sunk with an estimated 125 Americans on board, some of which are still not accounted for according to the U.S. Embassy in Rome. Eight passengers have been confirmed dead so far including two French, while 17 more are still unaccounted for.
