US Senate Passes First Proposal In Four Years

The US Senate passed its first formal budget proposal in four years early in the morning on Saturday. The 2014 Budget calls for one trillion dollars in tax increases. The proposal would reduce the deficit over the next 10 years. The bill passed 50 to 49 with no republicans voting for it and only four democrats voting against it.

The bill that passed the democratic controlled senate is not expected to pass thru the republican controlled house of representatives. The house plan would reduce spending by a trillion dollars and balance the budget in 10 years.

Michelle Obama Coming To Orlando Tuesday; To Speak At UCF Arena

First lady Michelle Obama will visit Central Florida on Tuesday, when she will speak at the University of Central Florida's arena. She will be on-hand to thank grass root organizations supporting her husband, Barack Obama, and to volunteers.

The event is free to attend, tickets can be obtained starting Saturday at 3pm at the Obama for America Offices at 1516 E. Colonial Dr, Orlando.

Before arriving at UCF, the first lady will be in South Florida at the Barbara Goleman High School in Miami Lakes.

Senate Votes On Obama's Call To Extend Payroll Tax Cuts On A 2 month Temporary Measure

The Senate has voted to extend the payroll tax cuts for Americans for two months giving them time to put together a complete package later. President Obama has been calling on congress to extend the payroll tax cuts before they leave Washington for the Christmas and New Year holiday and a two month extension was not exactly what he wanted.

Senate Rejects Bill To Give Money to States to Hire Teachers and Firefighters

The U.S. Senate has refused to allow debate on a bill that would send money to the states to hire teachers and firefighters after failing to gather the required 60 votes needed to move the bill on to debate.

All 47 Republicans voted to not proceed, along with two Democrats and one Independent, Senator Joseph Lieberman. The bill came about after the Senate also failed to pass or proceed with President Barak Obama's $447 billion Jobs Bill. The most recent bill to fail, the teachers and firefighters bill was a $35 billion part of the original Jobs bill.

Occupy Wall Street, OWS, has seen its numbers grow exponentially, in terms of offshoot supporting groups around the U.S. and the world, the amount of money it is raising, and the varied interest groups now supporting it.

Today has seen a large demonstration of the "Occupy" groups around the world demonstrating and marching in various cities, over 800 are planned just for Monday, Today.

Comprehensive Poll Into Occupy Wall Street & Tea Party Show Americans Favor Occupy Wall Street by Wide Margin

Both Time Magazine and NBC/Wall Street Journal have released recent poll figures that show the Tea Party is out and Occupy Wall Street (OWS) is in.

In the polls, Americans favored the main messages of Occupy Wall Street; that the gap between rich and poor has grown too large; that taxes should be raised on the rich; that execs responsible for the meltdown should be prosecuted. This view is shared by a large majority. Also telling is that only 23% said they had no opinion, which means the thorny issues have made their way into the mainstream lives of average Americans.

Majority of Americans Say The Government is a Threat to Citizen's Rights

In a Gallup poll recently, it found 81% believed the country is being governed wrong, 82% think all of congress should be re-elected, and a majority of Republicans and Independent voters said their constitutional rights are being threatened, while 25% of Democrats said the same thing. Inversely, while Bush was president, a majority of Democrats said their rights were under assault.

Obama Proposes Tax Hike On Millionaires To Reduce Federal Debt

President Obama has proposed new tax rules on millionaires that would close many loopholes allowing them to pay little or no federal taxes.

Dubbed the "Buffet Rule" after billionaire Warren Buffet wrote in an article in the New York Times that it is time Congress stop coddling the super rich, and that is was entirely unfair that his secretary pays more taxes that he does.

Republicans are set to push back, calling the super rich "job creators" and that taking money from them will stunt job growth in these harsh economic times.

House Passes FAA Funding Bill & Ground Transportation With Closed Door Negotiations

The House of Representatives has passed a temporary funding bill for the FAA that will fund the agency through the end of January, preventing a costly shutdown like what happened in August of this year. The bill also includes ground transportation funding that will last until the end of March.
