United Flight Suffers Bird Strike Damaging Nose Of Aircraft

Denver, CO -

A United Airlines flight 1475 from DFW to Denver was struck by an unknown bird while on approach to Denver International, about 25 miles from airport property. It was a Boeing 737-900 with 151 passengers on board. No injuries have been reported.

Damage to the aircraft was significant, with the nose of the aircraft that houses the plane's radar crushed in.

Officials have sent residue from the bird to the Smithsonian so that the bird type can be identified.

Tropical Storm Debbie Not Causing Popular Texas-Florida Flight Corridor Disruptions

As tropical storm Debbie churns its way through the Gulf Of Mexico, it has so far not brought any major delays or flight disruptions and deviations.

Orlando International reports there have been no delays or cancellations on flights to Texas that normally flight across the Gulf of Mexico, and Miami is reporting the same. Tampa said it had a few minor delays, but they were due to rain at the airport hampering operations rather than flight delays as a result of the storm.

Tornados In Dallas Area Wreak Havoc, Damage Widespread, Airplanes Damaged At DFW Caused Cancellations

Strong storms and tornados erupted in the Dallas area resulting in widespread damage, some severe in localized areas and over 110 airplanes at DFW airport were also damaged causing flight cancellations and extensive delays.

Local authorities say there was widespread but relatively minor damage, and the mayor of Arlington Texas says at least three people were injured. Severe damage appears to have been limited to small localized pockets.

Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly Spotted On A Delta Airlines Flight In First Class

Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly was recently spotted on a Delta Airlines flight in first class. In fact, several people boarding the same flight noticed the rival airline CEO on the jetway waiting to board. Gary Kelly is the Chairman, President and CEO of Southwest Airlines, which recently started service in Atlanta.

When confronted about being on a Delta flight, he acknowledged that yes, he in fact was on a Delta flight, and in first class. He went on to admit that from time to time he does fly other on other airlines.

American Airlines posted a $162 million loss for the 3rd quarter despite having a 7% higher ticket price on average; other major airlines are posting profits this year.

Dogging the airline is its aging fleet of aircraft that consume huge amounts of jet fuel compared to new aircraft that use much less, and its cost structure is still out of line for the industry.
