Earthquake In China Kills 102 And Injures 2,200

A 6.6 magnitude earthquake struck the southwest Chinese province of Sichuan early Saturday. 102 are dead and 2,200 injured. The area is mostly rural and mountainous making reaching it by rescue crews difficult.

State news agency Xinhua is reporting that 6,000 troops are being sent to the region for assistance. Residents in villages near the epicenter are reporting that almost all low rise houses and buildings were destroyed.

7.8 Earthquake Kills At Least 40 At Iran Near Pakistan Border

There has been a powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Saravan, Iran, which is near the Pakistan border, killing at least 40 people. The quake was so strong that it shook buildings as far away as New Delhi and Gulf cities of Dubai and Bahrain according to reports in those locations.

According to the USGS, the quake registered at 7.8 and was located 9 miles deep.

No other information is being released on Iranian state TV.

Tuesday's quake came less than a week after a 6.1 magnitude quake about 60 miles southeast of Bushehr, the site of Iran's main nuclear reactor, killed 37 people.

6.1 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Near Iran's Nuclear Plant In Kaki, Death Toll Climbs

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake has struck the town of Kaki, in the Bushehr province of Iran, the site of Iran's first nuclear power plant. "No damage was done to Bushehr power plant," Bushehr provincial governor Fereidoun Hasanvand told state TV.

So far at least 32 people have been confirmed dead and hundreds more are reported injured and more deaths are expected as emergency crews enter the area and survey the damage.

According to Shahpour Rostami, the deputy governor of the province, the district of Shomneh suffered the most damage.

Astronomers Discover Moon Is Suddenly Loosing Orbit; Projected To Hit Earth In 30 Years

Astronomers working with NASA have discovered that the moon's orbit has degraded sharply and is slowly loosing orbit. The discovery was first made by Jeff Harrington at American Lunar Institute and was subsequently confirmed by scientist in England and Australia.

Though Harrington said there is no explanation as to why the moon's orbit is degrading, based on calculation, the moon will impact earth in about 30 years.

Earthquake Strike Columbia And Affects Ecuador

A 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck in Columbia on Saturday 7 miles from the town of Pasto Columbia and 124 miles northeast of Quito Ecuador. The quake affected both Columbia and Ecuador.

No reports of significant damage or injuries reported. The quake was felt as far away as 340 miles in the capital of Columbia, Bogota and much of the country of Ecuador.

6.9 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Japanese Island

The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting a 6.9 magnitude earthquake near the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido. No reports of damage or injuries sustained from the event have been reported. No tsunami warnings have been issued.

Japanese media has said that a nearby nuclear plans sustained no damage. The island is 500 miles north of Tokyo.

Large Earthquake Strikes Off Alaska Coast

At midnight a 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck the Alaskan coast. The quake struck about 60 miles southwest of Port Alexander at a depth of 6 miles according to the U.S. Geological Service. Tsunami workings were issued for the entire coast of Alaska up to British Columbia. The warnings were later cancelled.

Initially there was a report that the quake was a 7.7 but that was later downgraded to 7.5. There have been no reports of damage with only a 6 inch rise in sea level reported at Port Alexander.

Earthquake Strikes Arkansas

According to the USGS, a 3.9 magnitude earthquake has struck about six miles from the town of Parkin, Arkansas, which is near the Tennessee border in the northeast part of the state.

The quake struck at a depth of 3.1 miles.

While earthquakes are normally associated with the west coast of the United States, some of the largest earthquakes in the nation's history happened along the Mississippi River on the New Madrid fault zone.

4.6 Earthquake Strikes Maine, Felt In Boston and Vermont

The USGS has reported that a magnitude 4.6 earthquake has struck 3 miles west of Hollis Center, Maine, which is west of Portland at 7:12pm.

Reports indicate the earthquake was felt in Vermont and Boston.

According to the USGS, the earthquake's epicenter was 17 mile deep.

So far there have been no reports of serious damage or fatalities.

Japan Says It Will End Nuclear Power After Fukushima Disaster And Earthquake

Japan has announced that it will become nuclear free by 2030, ending its nuclear power program. The move comes as the Fukushima disaster continues to makes large areas uninhabitable. The area became polluted with nuclear radiation from the leak of the power plant after it was damaged by the tsunami that occurred following the devastating earthquake.

Last year an estimated 160,000 people were evacuated due to the power plant leak and the following unmanagabilty of the containment and rescue by officials.
