Egyptian Police Block Israeli Border Crossing

Egyptian police have blocked the Nitzana border crossing with Israel, al-Awja as it is known in Egypt, after Islamist kidnap seven Egyptian police in the Sinai Peninsula.

This is the second border crossing, the first was Rafah, by Egyptian police who are protesting the kidnapping of fellow policemen in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula and the government's lack of efforts to get their fellow officers back safely and to stop the kidnappings.

Militants Fire Rockets At Resort Town Of Eilat Israel From Egypt's Sinai Peninsula

Militants fired rockets into the Israeli resort town of Eilat Wednesday. The rockets were launched by militants from Egypt's Sinai peninsula.

There were no reports of injuries or serious damage.

After former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak was deposed 2011, Egypt's ability to control the Sinai peninsula has been less than ideal as militants have been able to operate with near impunity.

Israeli tourist were taken hostage recently before being released after negotiations between Egypt and nomadic tribesmen in the area.

According to Egyptian government figured, an estimated 30-50 million locust have invaded from the west and landed along the fertile Nile river farming areas and in the Giza plateau pyramids.

Government officials from the ministry of agriculture have told people not to attempt to rid the area of the locust by lighting car tires on fire, saying it will not work but can endanger peoples lives.

Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi Cautioned About Anti-Semitic Remarks Ahead of German Trip

Egypt's president, Mohamed Mursi, was caught making anti-semitic remarks, saying, we must "nurse our children and our grandchildren on hatred for Jews and Zionists". These comments were made in 2010 when he was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood and Hosni Mubarak was the president.

The discovery of them by the New York Times last week comes as Mursi is set to visit Germany and hold talks with Chancellor Angela Merkel where he is expected to plead for financial aid.

Egyptian President Morsi Rescends Controversial Power Increase

Embattled Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi announced that he will belay the orders he granted himself that would give him sweeping powers. The controversial measure would among other things allow him laws and decisions without any judicial review.

This comes after three weeks of protest amount the Egyptian people. The classes mainly focused against the Muslim Brotherhood whom Morsi is a part of. The sometimes violent clashes were reminiscent of the political uprising that occurred during the revolution.

Protests In Egypt Continue For Second Day After President Morsi Makes Offense Grab At Power

Cairo woke up to a second day of protest after Egyptian President Morsi made a power grab Friday by decreeing his rules and orders can not be challenged by the courts or the nation's parliament. Morsi also removed Egypt's Chief Justice Friday.

In what the president's office says was meant to be a temporary action meant t break to logjam and speed up the transition to democracy and a new constitution, President Morsi has come under fire from political opponents and even some in his own party, the Muslim Brotherhood.

Egyptians Protest President Morsi's New Decree Anointing Himself As Pharaoh And Un-Challengable

Egyptians took to the streets following President Morsi's decree that his rules and orders can not be legally challenged with some calling him the self appointed Pharaoh.

Supporters of Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood and opponents threw rocks at each other in Cairo and in other cities around Egypt.

"Morsi a 'temporary' dictator," was the headline in the independent daily Al-Masry Al-Youm.

The president's decree aimed to end the logjam and push Egypt, the Arab world's most populous nation, more quickly on its democratic path, the presidential spokesman said.

Israel And Hamas Almost Tentatively Agreed To Egyptian Brokered Cease Fire

The deal that would have brought an end to the current round of fighting between Israel and Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip is still not in place despite word by Ayman Taha of the Hamas government that controls Gaza, Israel and Gaza militants that they have agreed to a cease fire that was brokered by Egypt.

The cease fire was scheduled to go into effect at 10:00pm GMT, or 5:00pm eastern time today. The time came and went with actual deal as both sides were demanding vastly different things but openly saying there could be a deal soon.

Egypt's Orthodox Coptic Christian Church Enthrones Its New Leader, Pope Tawadros II

On Sunday, Egypt's Orthodox Coptic Christian Church enthroned its new leader, Pope Tawadros II, in an elaborate four hour ceremony held at the Coptic cathedral in Cairo that was attended by the Muslim Egyptian Prime Minister as well as numerous other government officials.

The Christian Coptic faith is the largest single Christian group in the middle east and makes up about 10% of the Egyptian population and are found mostly in the north of Egypt and in the seaside city of Alexandria.
