Kissimmee City Hall Evacuated Over Suspicious Device, Orlando Bomb Squad Responds

Kissimmee, Fla. -

The Kissimmee City Hall building has been evacuated along with some nearby businesses after a suspicious device was found. The Orlando Bomb Squad has responded to the scene since Kissimmee does not have one itself.

Additionally the streets around city hall are closed and drivers are having to find alternate routes to avoid the area. Police have asked citizens to avoid the immediate area.

Bomb Scare Forces Evacuation at Federal Courthouse in Downtown West Palm Beach

West Palm Beach, Fla. -

The West Palm Beach Police have closed off the 800 block of Banyan Blvd. due to a suspicious vehicle, a U-Haul truck, parked outside or nearby. A bomb sniffing dog detected a smell that required police to open the vehicle. Authorities said it was an old U-haul that is now privately owned.

Because of the threat and partial closure of Banyan Blvd, the Federal Courthouse had to be evacuated also. After a search of the vehicle nothing was found and it has been determined there is not a threat.

Eleven states in all now have evacuation orders:  Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina.  This mass exodus covers over 7 millions people.

This is the first time in New York City's history there has been a mandatory evacuation.

7 million Americans Under Evacuation Orders To Flee Hurricane Irene

Washington, D.C. -

A whopping seven million American are under some type of evacuation order, either mandatory or voluntary, stretching from North Carolina to New Jersey, with more evacuations likely as Hurricane Irene approaches the Washington D.C. metro area, the New Jersey coast, New York City, Long Island, Connecticut, Martha's Vineyard, Cape Cod and the state of Maine. This event could turn out to be the largest American migration ever, and the largest evacuation in U.S. recorded history.

Evacuations Begin Ahead of Hurricane Irene in N.C.

Marking the 2011 season of mass human migrations, officials have begun evacuations in parts of North Carolina's Ocracoke Island, and along the barrier islands. Tourists have been ordered to leave; next up will be homeowners and residents, starting Wednesday evening or Thursday morning. The area is served by ferry service so it takes time to get people moved.
