Wanted Mississippi Couple Arrested In Ocala Florida

Police in Ocala have arrested 2 wanted persons from Mississippi, 32-year-old Gary Sneed and Holly Morrison.

An FHP trooper stopped to help what he thought was a stranded motorist when he ran the tags and discovered the vehicle was stolen.

Sneed is wanted in Miss. for failing to report to his probation officer and Morrison was being sought for car theft and other unrelated warrants.

One Dead And 19 Injured In Rollover Accident On Florida Turnpike

Florida Highway Patrol investigating a rollover accident on Saturday that killed one and injured 19. The accident occurred on the Florida Turnpike near Kenansville which is located the southern Osceola County. A preliminary investigation indicates that at separated tire was the cause for the driving losing control which caused the van to flip several times.

Florida Set To Execute Paul Howell For 1992 Murder of FHP Trooper Trooper Jimmy Fulford

The Florida State Prison in Starke, Florida will execute Paul Augustus Howell Tuesday (tomorrow) at 6:00pm, unless any last minute reprieve is won by lawyers in both state and federal court.

Howell was convicted in the Feb 1992 death of FHP trooper Jimmy Fulford.

Fulford died after doing a traffic stop on Howell and opened a package that contained a microwave. The microwave was booby-trapped and exploded, killing Fulford. It had originally been intended for two woman Howell knew.

Seminole County School Bus Runs Red Light And Crashes Into Power Pole

Seminole Couty, Fla. -

A school bus carrying special needs students crashed this moring after running a red light, side swiping a minivan driven by Chrystele Rouzic and then crashing into a utility pole at Dodd Rd. and Red Bug Lake Road. The bus was being driven by 67-year-old Jack Timmel which had students on board during the incident.

The incident knocked out power for nearby residents in two neighborhoods and the school where Rouzic was leaving from.

No students were injured according to the FHP who issied a citation to the school bus driver for running a red light.

34-Year-Old Cocoa Beach Woman Found Dead On Side of Road Near Patrick AFB

Police in Brevard County along with the FHP are investigating the discovery of a 34-year-old Cocoa Beach woman who was found dead on the side of A1A northbound near Patrick AFB.

FHP have said they believe it is the result of a hit-and-run and do not have any leads at this time.

FHP Trooper John Costa Sentenced To 5 Days In Jail

Florida Highway Patrol trooper John Costa has been sentenced to 5 days in jail for failing to appear in court to testify in an October court trail over a suspect's DUI case.

On Friday, he was held in contempt of court in Volusia County and sentenced to five days in the county jail as a result.

Costa originally was thought to have been fired by the FHP but in new reports, the FHP said it is not automatically firing him, and that it needs to take a look at the incident and its investigation before making the determination to fire Costa or not.

Bicyclist Hit And Killed On East Colonial By Motorist

Orlando, Fla. -

A bicyclist was hit and killed by a motorist on East Colonial Dr just east of Semoran Blvd near Old Cheny Hwy today at about 1:00pm.

FHP responded to the scene and have closed the road, drivers wanting to use Old Cheny Hwy on the east side of Semoran Blvd are being forced to use an alternate route.

A witness we talked to, Cheryl Grimes, said that she was walking to the store when she saw a red Ford SUV making a left onto Old Cheny Hwy from Colonial hit the bicyclist and subsequently was then hit by a blue Honda who was making a right onto old Cheny Hwy from Colonial.

Miami Cop Caught Habitually Speeding At 90+mph Has Been Fired

Miami, Fla. -

The Miami Police Department has fired officer Fausto Lopez after an internal investigation found he demonstrated a “practice and pattern” of reckless speeding, a misdemeanor in Florida.

He was caught by FHP trooper Donna Jane Watts after clocking him doing 120mph on her radar, and has been observed speeding over 80 times.

As Trooper Watts gave chase, her superiors told her to "back off" but Watts did not, believing no police officer would drive that fast or reckless and that it may be stolen.

FHP Steps Up Patrols And Enforcement During 4th Of July Holiday

The Florida Highway Patrol, FHP, said it is stepping up patrols during the fourth of July holiday starting today. To increase its public presence, the FHP said they are pulling every available person, including those normally assigned to desk duties and administrative work and putting them in police vehicles.

Troopers will patrol major streets and the state's highways and toll roads starting today with their increased presence and end on July 5th, Thursday.

Heineken Beer Truck Overturns On I-95, Spills 55,000 Pounds Of Beer, FHP Says Alcohol Not Involved

Daytona Beach, Fla. -

A Heineken beer truck flipped over on I-95 in Daytona Beach near LPGA Blvd while traveling from Miami and spilled over 55,000 gallons of beer across the interstate forcing it to be closed for several hours. The 2007 Freightliner truck was traveling north when the incident happened.

The driver of the truck, a 46 year old Marcos Martinez, claimed another truck in front of him swerved, but FHP said no other skid marks are present and no witnesses backed up the driver's statement.
