Florida Prison Guard Pleads Guilty To Stealing Inmate Data To File False Tax Returns

Miami, Fla. -

Former corrections officer Bernard Beliard has pleaded guilty to stealing personal data of prisoners at the South Florida Reception Center and selling that info to file false tax returns.

27-year-old Beliard pleaded guilty in a federal courtroom in Miami to aggravated identity theft and access device fraud charges.

According to prosecutors, Beliard obtained information on 805 prisoners and then sold the information to an undercover FBI agent posing as a criminal attempting to file false tax returns.

Lance Armstrong Sued By SCA Promotions For Money They Gave Him For Tour de France Wins

Lance Armstrong and his company, Tailwind Sports, have been sued by SCA Promotions Inc. in Dallas with SCA claiming that gave Armstrong $12.1 millions dollars for his wins at the Tour de France, wins he has since been stripped of following a doping scandal that Armstrong recently admitted to with Oprah Winfrey.

The money was awarded to Armstrong by SCA for his 2002, 2003 and 2004 wins.

Among the claims by SCA, they claim that Armstrong has brought discredit to their organization.

University of Pennsylvania Quiet On Investigation Of Dean Doug Lynch Faking His Own Degrees

The University of Pennsylvania has kept a low profile over accusations that its Vice Dean of the graduate school of education, Doug Lynch, faked his Masters and PhD degrees saying they were from Columbia University.

Following an investigation by the Philadelphia Inquirer, the results shows that he in fact did not receive a Masters degree in 2005 from the prestigious Ivy league school, nor his PhD from anywhere in 2007 in which he claimed he did when he joined UPenn. Lynch was working on his doctoral degree, but not at Columbia University.

U.S. Banks Agree to $25 Billion Settlement Over Wrongful Foreclosure Practices

Five of the nation's largest banks, Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Citibank and Ally Financial, have agreed to a $25 billion settlement deal over wrongful or unfair foreclosure practices that will now be sent to attorney generals in each state for review an approval.

The deal, if approved by the states, will reshape the mortgage industry and will offer at most about $1,800 to each homeowner who went into foreclosure, and it will make it easier for current homeowners to write down the principle of their mortgage or get loan modifications.

Florida Lawmakers Trying To Get Rid Of PIP Auto Insurance

With Florida being a no-fault state, PIP is part of the mandatory coverage for every vehicle, but lawmakers in Tallahassee are trying to get rid of PIP, saying it creates higher premiums and fraud.

State lawmakers, including Gov. Rick Scott, CFO Jeff Atwater, and a major part of the state's legislature, support getting rid of PIP insurance in Florida and support moving to a liability state.

Matthew Scheidt Turns Himself in to Lake County Jail on New Warrants of Impersonating a Physician's Assistant

Kissimmee, Fla. -

17 year old Matthew Scheidt has turned himself in to the Lake County Jail on new warrants for allegedly impersonating a physician's assistant at Osceola County Regional Medical Center in Kissimmee, and for attempting to do the same at the Saint Cloud RMC where he was turned away for lacking proper paperwork and credentials.
