Boy Scouts To Vote On Allowing Gay Scouts But Ban Gay Leaders

The Boy Scouts of America are set to vote next month on a proposal that would lift the ban on gay scouts but keep the ban on gay scout leaders. The vote will happen at the national council on May 20th.

The proposal is a modification of an idea proposed in January to leave the decision on allowing gay scouts and leaders to the local organization. That proposal was tabled after many on both sides responded to negatively.

U.S. Military Planning First Ever Gay Pride Celebrations

Former Rutgers student Dharun Ravi was convicted today on 15 counts involving using a web cam to spy on Tyler Clementi, his gay room mate, who eventually killed himself by jumping off a bridge.

Among the charges he was convicted of were anti-gay intimidation and invasion of privacy.

Gay Military Members Sue U.S. Military for "Equal Rights"; Say DOMA is Unconstitutional

A group of gay service members is suing the U.S. Military for what they believe is unequal treatment. Specifically they are suing to have the same benefits that heterosexual members of the military enjoy. The group of current and former gay military members claim the Defense of Marriage Act, DOMA, a federal law that currently blocks any branch of the federal government from recognizing gay marriages, is unconstitutional and a violation of their rights. It is gay marriages that they want recognized and the benefits that come with it, including survivor benefits.

40 People Detained In Russia During Gay Rights Parade

Russian authorities have detained 40 people during a state sanctioned gay rights parade in Moscow. Organizers say the parade was significant because it is one of the few ever to have the support of the government; most have been opposed by the Russian Orthodox Church, and various other groups.

Police say they are still trying to sort out who were legitimate protesters and who were the hecklers that were seen throwing objects into the crowd and trying to thwart the parade.

The Military's Don't Ask Don't Tell Policy Law Ends at 12:01 EDT Tuesday Morning

The long-controversial Don't Ask Don't Tell law and policy will expire tonight at 12:01 EDT, early Tuesday morning. Once the law was repealed, the military began re-training all of its 2.2 million members on more diversity training.

The rank and file members of the military have long expressed views that allowing gays to openly serve in the military does not bother them, despite statements from military leaders and some conservative members of Congress that it would hurt the cohesiveness and military effectiveness of the fighting force.

Republican Senator Roberto Arango of Puerto Rico has resigned following pictures of him relating to a gay iPhone app appeared on the internet.

Senate President Thomas Rivera Schatz received the letter of resignation and calling the incident "very lamentable." Pictures shown include someone who appears to be the Senator on his hands and knees naked, and another of his upper body, also unclothed.
