Japanese Car Makers Recalling 3.4 Million Cars Due To Faulty Airbag Deployment

Japan's 4 large auto manufacturers, Toyota, Honda Nissan and Mazda have announced that they are recalling 3.4 million cars due to faulty airbags which "could cause the airbag inflator to rupture and deploy the airbag abnormally in a crash".

The recall affect cars sold globally, and have said the problem is with is with a part made by Takata.

Toyota's portion of the recall involve some 1.73 million cards, Honda is recalling 1.3 million, Nissan 480,000 and Mazda said it is recalling 45,000 cars.

The Consumer Reports 2012 Annual Auto Reliability Survey has been released and there were some surprising results.

Scion leads the pack at number 1 along with Toyota and Lexus brands rounding out the top 3, and the next six on the list are held by Japanese auto manufacturers.

Honda Recalls 600,000 Accords Over Leaking Hose That Can Lead To Fires

Honda has issued a recall for 600,000 Accords relating to a faulty power steering hose that can leaks and create a potential fire hazard.

The recall includes Accords from model years 2003-2007 with V-6 engines.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that Accord’s power steering hose can deteriorate with prolonged exposure to engine heat. The hoses can crack and leak, possibly causing a fire or loss of power-assisted steering.

Honda said that is has received at least one report of the hose leaking which then caused a fire. There were no injuries in that incident.

Honda Issues Recall For 172,200 CR-V's and Acura ILX For Model Year 2013

Honda has announced that it is recalling 172,200 vehicles related to problems with the door's lock. The recall covers model year 2013 small SUV CR-V's and Acrua ILX cars.

Honda says that if the inside driver or passenger door handles are used at the same time as the power or manual door locks, the inner door latch may not work. This means a door may not latch, or it could latch and open when the locks are used.

The auto maker said it does not know of any crashes or injuries related to the problem.

Honda Recalling 2012 Honda Civics For Drive Shaft Failures

Honda has announced that it is recalling some 2012 Honda Civics in the U.S. due to an improperly manufactured drive shaft that could lead cars be unable to accelerate or the engine to get any power to the wheels (loss of power).

In all, about 50,000 Civics are included in the recall. It also said that cars parked on includes could roll away if the parking brake was not set properly.

Honda has asked owners of 2012 Civic's to contact their local deal to schedule an appointment for an inspection and repair if necessary, and that the cost of the inspection and repairs will be free.

Global Honda Recall For Faulty Airbags Causing Deaths Cover Accord, Civic, Odyssey, CR-V, Acura TL

Honda is recalling another 304,000 bring the total to over 2 million recalls due to faulty airbag debris causing deaths. The vehicles involved now are certain 2001 and 2002 Accords; 2001 to 2003 Civics and Odysseys; 2002 and 2003 CR-Vs; Acura 3.2 TLs; 2003 Pilots; and Acura 3.2 CL vehicles.

During deployment of the airbag, plastic or metal debris has ejected, causing deaths to the driver due to use of incorrect material in the chemical used to deploy air bags and excessive moisture in the inflator propellant, which is what inflates the air bag.

This year, manufacturers are highlighting their test drives, with many offering licensed drivers over 18 years old to take one of the show cars for a spin on the course set up at the convention center.

Honda Recalls Over 300,000 Pilot SUVs Over Seat Belts Disconnecting During Crashes

Los Angeles, CA. -

Honda will be recalling over 300,000 Pilot SUV's because of faulty craftsmanship of its front seat belts which can become disconnected during a crash.

The recall covers 2009-2011 model years of all versions of the Pilot. Honda said that poor or incorrect stitching of the lap section of the belt to the outboard anchor webbing can break free during a crash which would increase the risk of serious injuries.
